Mental game failed me.
« on: March 06, 2005, 05:21:12 PM »
I've been practicing this week for my first scratch tourney this morning.  Needless to say I didn't bowl anywhere near my A game today.  By the end of the 2nd game, I wanted to grab my gear and bail but I chalked it up to a humbling and learning experience.

The things I did wrong today:

1.  Didn't execute my normal follow thru and delivery from the start.
2.  Didn't adjust accordingly.
3.  Got frustrated early and never got over it.

So I will take this to practice and work on it for my next tourney.

BrunsRod: Take this as a big learning experience and move on from there. Sounds like you went in with a certain expectation of what the shot would be like and when that didn't come up, you got mentally frustrated which probably crept into your spare game. As hard as it is to try, I don't go into any tournament with an expectation of what the shot will be like. There have been many tournaments where one pair of lanes I'll be able to use an Animal, and another pair I'll have to play a different line with a Barbed Wire.

What about your normal follow through and delivery weren't you able to execute? Was this purely a timing issue or did you have to play the lanes in a style you aren't accustomed to playing? Maybe if you are able to pinpoint what exactly gave you the most trouble you can work on those aspects in practice.

Well, I'm used to playing the "tween" shot but this morning, most were playing the inside line.  I've played that before so I started with my Rhino Pro Teal.  Box/factory surface.  I was all over the thumb hole so I know I wasn't releasing the ball right.  I definitely was not coming inside-out on my wing.  More than likely, I fell victim to my chicken wing arm swing again.

I expected the lanes to be competitive.  I didn't think they would be the same as league or the days I usually practice.

In the bag this morning:

Rhino Pro Teal
Goliath
Time Zone
Absolute
Classic Zone
