Title: BR Track tourney
Post by: tenpinspro on October 13, 2004, 02:40:38 AM
Okay guys, here goes the updated info.  Entry deadline for this month is 10/31...join in anyone!  Please submit averages to Andrew at loose5682, if you want you can also post out here for others to see and get an idea of who's at what avg.

Rules:
1) Pins over current average for 4 weeks of bowling, highest average at the beginning of the month will be used for that month
2) Must use a Track ball for all 3 games(1st 3 games if you bowl 4 in league)....spare balls ok
3) Pls list ball used so we all can see what's working out there...
4) HONESTY a must....LOL...I'm starting to get to know a few of you guys and I know how you are...lol
5) Report your scores weekly to loose5682 and update(modify) your personal post for all to see, it can also work as a cross reference to the leader board.
6)There cannot be multiple winners so second place to a previous winner will take the monthly prize and be included into the TOC.

Please use the following format to list your personal scores.

Week 1 - Avg 190; Shoot 700 - Pins Over Avg 130
Week 2 - Avg 197; Shoot 600 - Pins Over Avg 9
Week 3 - Avg 197; Shoot 510 - Pins Over Avg -81
Week 4 - Avg 194; Shoot 750 - Pins Over Avg 168  Total = 226

Here's our current list of participants:
tenpinspro, Rock77, Aristotle, (Hall of famer) Anthony Chapman, loose5682, Traumabill, ClutchClay, TJFreaky24, VT_Turkey, Ernie McCracken, Mitch Cumsteen, OmegaBowler, EXCALIBER, bowler257628, Icetink, PNJ1267, dw23, not_enuff_carry203, aharvey, WIX, psaunders300, the great one, MC, stormin1, pbafire, OG1, srlunatic, Columbia4Life, Roy Munson, Vasilis, Lane Bed

Wow...up to 31 and climbing!

If I missed anything pls let me know, thanks!

Rick, I love the idea. Aside from towels, cleaners/polishes would be a good prize as well. Of course we would only expect the 8 oz bottles. Either way, its a great idea.

Wait, it's gotta be the choice of Track cleaners that I have in stock at the time...

Hey, I'm totally down with that kinda idea. All that I currently own and carry is Track, so might as well try to get something out of it right? So what do I get to take for average? I'm pretty low right now, since I don't have much feeling for the ball. Last time I looked, my average is down to 177, and I AM trying. Thank god I have a good excuse otherwise people would start crying that I am sand bagging. haha! But how about a coaching session if the winner is local?

That's a pretty good idea!  720 ehhh, is that for 4 games?

I also suggest we narrow it down to say one league for the multiple league bowlers.  Makes it easier to determine the pins over average.

Aris, anytime you're in my area, you've got a comp lesson.  Just come on in...

Chapman, I want to bowl in your league cause on sweeper nite we cap off the high man, I'd get tons of sticks off you...LOL

One league sounds good, highest avg league should be fairest to use, right?  Keep'em coming guys...thanks.

I am in too.  My two main goto balls are a Threat and Dry Heat.

Questions:
- If we are going for pins over average, then do we use our average at the start of the month for the whole month, or our average as of each week of the month?
- Do we take the sum of all our over avg and under avg series for the month or just the sum of the over avg series?

Example 1:
Week 1 - Avg 190; Shoot 700 - Pins Over Avg  130
Week 2 - Avg 197; Shoot 600 - Pins Over Avg    9
Week 3 - Avg 197; Shoot 510 - Pins Over Avg  -81
Week 4 - Avg 194; Shoot 750 - Pins Over Avg  168
Total Pins Over Avg = 130 + 9 - 81 + 168 = 226
OR
Total Pins Over Avg = 130 + 9 + 168 = 307

Example 2:
Week 1 - Avg 190; Shoot 700 - Pins Over Avg  130
Week 2 - Avg 190; Shoot 600 - Pins Over Avg   30
Week 3 - Avg 190; Shoot 510 - Pins Over Avg  -60
Week 4 - Avg 190; Shoot 750 - Pins Over Avg  180
Total Pins Over Avg = 130 + 30 - 60 + 180 = 280
OR
Total Pins Over Avg = 130 + 30 + 180 = 340

I think we should take the total over and under your average. That way if you do have a bad week, you give others a chance to catch up to you. Just my opinion though.

I suggest this...

We start November 1st, we take Rock's idea of using pins over and pins under avg.  But you have to be honest about your average...it's not too tough to check your average each week, so i say that it should be pins over your current average, not your average at the start of the month.  Winner at the end of the month gets choice of a towel or an 8oz. bottle of cleaner, something like that.  Rick, I can even volunteer to help you out with the organization/stat keeping end of it.  I'm looking forward to the friendly competition amongst us Tracksters.

Wow, I'm impressed!  I knew there were some but seeing everyone pop up is cool.  So far we have.....

tenpinspro, Rock77, Aristotle, (Hall of famer) Anthony Chapman, loose5682, Traumabill, ClutchClay, TJFreaky24, VT_Turkey, Ernie McCracken, Mitch Cumsteen, OmegaBowler, EXCALIBER, bowler257628, Icetink, PNJ1267, dw23, not_enuff_carry203, aharvey, WIX, psaunders300, the great one, MC, stormin1

Off the top of my head, missing Mr Track, Precision, Vasilis, Roy Munson...who else wants some...lol

Thanks Andrew, it would be great if you can handle this for me.  Basically I like the idea also of starting 11/1 and count 4 weeks of bowling.  Highest league (pls) guys, avgs will adjust by week to keep it more fair because we only have about 18-21 games in right?  If you pop a series, it could really make you jump and that will make it harder for the following weeks, make sense?  I like the layout of Clutch's#1 simple breakdown per week, once the posts start to pop up, we could just leave them there in that position and modify it week after week vs trying to find and chase new posts.  Any other thoughts?  We've got some time so pls bring'em up....oh yeah, one more rule

Anyone 5'4" or under gets 10 bonus pins a week...LMAO....HEY, I'm at a height disadvantage...sounded good to me....

BTW guys, this is my deal.  It's not coming from Track, I thought it'd be fun.  I may however approach them to see if they want to get involved for prizes and stuff but no guarantees, alright?  I also have a few strange prizes you guys might like but it's common to me so no biggie, like half balls, I have a free standing clear wolf ball with a flat bottom for display, I thought about giving a couple of sets of grips if you want, I don't know.  I think I'll make a list of stuff you can choose from and we'll go from there...give me some more ideas in this area pls.

Sorry to all those who cannot participate but I feel this is the fairest scenario.  Joe, I highly respect your honesty, C4L...NO, Rags, didn't know you were a switch hitter there bud and Tracy, you're right, this is prejudiced...lol.

Yea man, i'll take care of the record keeping aspect of it, sounds good.  An idea for prizes...depending on how much stuff you get (i.e. half balls, sets of grips/slugs, towels, cleaner, etc.) and once you figure it out, you could base the placing system on that.  I.E. 1st place gets their choice either of something "big" (like a half ball) or a couple of "littler" things (such as the grips, towels, cleaner, etc.) something like that?  Don't know, just throwing out ideas here.  So we'll start 11/1, with the last day for scores being 11/30.  This means that the Monday and Tuesday leagues will have 5 weeks whereas everybody else will have 4.  Does that sound fair?  How do we want to work that out?  I for one will be using my Tuesday league, and I really don't care as to whether I get 4 or 5 league nights, really doesnt matter to me but I know it would to some people.  And always remember, this is more for fun and bragging rights than anything!

Thanks Andrew, (you'd better look out for that Rags character)

I think we should count 4 weeks of scores for everyone to keep it fair unless the guys want something else.  I have been questioned by a few on the honesty policy and my reply is just like you said, this is mainly for bragging rights and FUN.  I'd hate to think people would be dishonest for a towel...but I would keep an eye out for Rock77 and Ex, (Rock cause he said it and Ex cause I know one of his league averages..)  Forgot to mention, this is open to all men AND women of all averages, nothing too low or too high...(c'mon Wix), there are also a few more people that I help out here I know throw nothing but Track, c'mon and join in on the fun.  Imagine if you beat Mr Chapman, how many of you can say that you've ever beat a Hall of Famer?  haha...that's my goal!

Since we are going for pins over average, it has to be the same number of weeks for everyone or else the people with 5 weeks get a one week advantage (although it could be a disadvantage if they fall apart in week 5).  So, I'll vote for counting four weeks of bowling starting on 11/1.

Rick, glad you liked my example.  But, were you thinking of counting only the over average pins or total pins (Result A or B below):
Week 1 - Avg 190; Shoot 700 - Pins Over Avg 130
Week 2 - Avg 197; Shoot 600 - Pins Over Avg 9
Week 3 - Avg 197; Shoot 510 - Pins Over Avg -81
Week 4 - Avg 194; Shoot 750 - Pins Over Avg 168

Result A: Total Pins Over Avg = 130 + 9 - 81 + 168 = 226
Result B: Total Pins Over Avg = 130 + 9      + 168 = 307

My personal preference would be for Result A.  That way it would provide a full test of the bowler's performance during the tourney rather than just who can shoot a couple of big series (and possibly a couple of little ones).

I also like the offer of cleaners and polishes because I use those Track products.  Of course, if Track would like to get in as a sponsor and offer a ball, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

[brownnose]ALL HAIL TRACK![/brownnose]

Finally, a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Rick for coming up with this idea and offering to put up the prize(s).

Thanks Clutch, I also like your "A" breakdown cause that would keep it fair.  I liked the layout of the breakdown cause it was real clean and simple, maybe Andrew can modify/utilize his main post for up to date totals and have it act as a leader board as well, that's what I'm picturing.  Whatever's easiest is fine with me, no biggie.  Luckily I'm only at 168....j/k, I wish, I'm at about 13-14 and that's about the best it's gonna be without practice...that's why I proposed the 10 bonus pins...

I had a thought that should worry many of us if we are going to take part in Rick's tournament...........

......Mr Leong at his own admission can be tight **L** Who is to say that these towels he will be offering up will not be white towels bought a local dollar store and have TRACK written on them with a sharpie maker?

AND about this ball cleaner/polish thing....who is to say that he does not buy a bunch of 8oz bottles, empty half from every one of them into his 32oz that he uses in the shop and water down the rest of those 8oz bottles?

There are few things in bowling that pleasure me as much as being able to pick on Mr Leong a bit. <<<<<<<Rick, before you say anything about the pleasure thing I am a happily married man!!!!

I dont think people should only be allowed to win once. But I do think that there should be a max # of wins a person can achieve through the course of the tournament.

Are we determining winners based on most over average for the month or per week?

If we do it per week, then obviously there will be more winners, if we do it monthly, then between now and the TOC, that leaves us 6 months I believe? That means 6 winners.

How bout this, we do weekly winners and you get the smaller prizes like towels polishes etc... Then we do an overall winner of the month who gets a bigger prize choice like the half ball display or even maybe Track shirts, if we can come up with them. How does that sound??

Rick...so far everything here looks good, I like the idea of using over and under average.  4 weeks sounds good, let's just say the first 4 weeks, sound fair?  I'll take care of the stat-keeping for it, but i won't be responsible for tracking down scores, it will be your responsibility to report scores (and averages, correctly!) to me so that your scores will be counted.  However, i'll be extra lenient and you'll have til the end of the month to get all scores reported.  I.E.  you could either save all your scores (but you have to make sure your averages are correct from week to week) to report to me until the end of the month, OR you could report them as soon as you shoot them (which is what I would prefer).  Actually, come to think of it, why don't we make sure we report on a week-by-week basis, that way we can have a somewhat accurate leaderboard going, to see how everyone does from week to week.

Also, at the beginning of the month, the league you use for the first week is the league you will use for the entire month.  Meaning, if you are close in average in the two leagues (since we are using the highest average, correct?) the one you start with is the one you finish with, regardless of whether it is higher at the end of the month.  Does that sound good guys?

Put me down as being for:
- weekly reporting of scores and ball(s) used
- using your highest average league (as of 11/1)
- using the same league for all four weeks (even if that league average is not the highest average for all four weeks)
- requiring that only Track equipment be used except for spare shots (like Rick said)
- basing the +/- on your sheet average for each week
- only winning a prize one time (if you have the highest +/- score more than once then you get bragging rights every time, but a prize only once)
- have a BR Track Tourney of Champions for the all the monthly (or four week period) winners that coincides with the PBA TOC
- -10 pins per game for people 5' 4" tall or less
- 10 pins per game for people 6' tall or more

Agreeing with Clay on...

Everything, especially the TOC idea, that would definitely be awesome.  Is there 8 months from now til the TOC?  Cause that would be ideal cause then we could do an 8 person bracket.  But if not, we'll work something out.

However!!

Being 5'10'' I do NOT agree with the 10 pin bonus for shorties or jolly green giants!  :-)  Sorry Rick!

How about a 10 pin bonus for those of us that are going through chemotherapy? Unfortunately my highest average league is on Wednesday which means that I will miss at least 1 week during the tournament time because I'll be at the hospital. Any suggestions?

Hmm...I have a friend in your same boat Aristotle, he's going through Chemo and will be missing bowling every once in a while...hmm...do we give him just an even score for his absent week (or for any absent week) or do we do the generic avg. -10 rule?  That almost wouldn't be fair because then they get a score of -30 even though they couldn't help but miss.  I for one vote for the even score idea, that way no harm, no benefit if you miss a week.

Dude, you're digging too deep into my pockets man...lol.  I can't afford weekly plus monthly, I was hoping for just monthly and maybe for TOC.  Remember, I haven't called Track for anything...yet.

Aristotle, I also think 0 for any absent week for any bowler is fine, this is still supposed to be for fun guys.

Andrew, have you got everybody?  I updated my one post with names, pls use that as a reference if you want.

To ALL, everyone is responsible for reporting their own scores on a weekly basis so we can have up to date running totals.  Again, I'm picturing the guys who have Monday league 11/1 will post first and then just modify it weekly for everyone to see.  Pick your highest league to use for average, you don't have to switch off to another league even if it becomes higher, we'll just stick to the one league for the month, plus we should then all be able to see that your scores and current averages for the following week(s) match up.

Example: Avg 200 - Week #1 shoot 630 - the following week should have
Avg 201 - should probably go up a pin or so, understand?

Anything else?  absent score = 0, weekly input, cutoff this month 10/31...just say it guys if something's missing, thanks.

Rick

Haha, i've actually got 2 16# Track orbs for sale if anyone's interested, a Hex and K.O. Punch

In all seriousness though, looks like this is shaping up quite nicely, each monthly winner gets a prize plus an entry into the TOC, multiple monthly winners do not get multiple prizes, but do they get multiple entries into the TOC?

+/- 0 for absent weeks sounds good

I looked at the PBA schedule and discovered that the PBA TOC is in April, meaning that we'll have...

November
December
January
February
March

Five month's worth of winners before the TOC, so how should we run our TOC then?  Will we do a one week, most pins over average wins?  Should do it for the whole month of April?  Stepladder?  Any suggestions?

I vote no multiple entries into the TOC?  A multiple winner gets bragging rights only - not spoils of victory.  Besides, if we maintain the same format (plus/minus avg), then multiple TOC entries would just mean fewer unique TOC entrants.

The PBA TOC is 04/06 - 04/10.  So, we could do something like this:
Round 1: 11/1 - 11/28 (4 weeks)
Round 2: 11/29 - 12/26 (4 weeks)
Round 3: 12/27 - 01/23 (4 weeks)
Round 4: 01/24 - 02/20 (4 weeks)
Round 5: 02/21 - 03/20 (4 weeks)
TOC: 03/21 - 04/10 (3 weeks)

With this schedule, we get in 5 4-week rounds and a 3-week TOC with the TOC-C being decided on the same day as the PBA TOC-C.  The format for the TOC would be the same as the rounds, plus/minus current average, just one week shorter.

Also, since November and December have possible byes due to holidays, I would propose that a bye in the league you are using for the Tourney be treated just like an absence - a score of plus 0.

I would also propose that your highest average league be set at the start of the round and that league be used for the whole round.

Sorry Im Late. COUNT ME IN, also. Rick, so your pockets dont get down to the lint, Maybe some of the other pro shop guys could throw in some towels, etc. At least if Track doesn't want in on this, which they better, Daddy needs a new ball. What about a side prize for biggest increase in avg from wk 1 - TOC?

How bout we PM our results to you, then you can post them at the end of the week. It would make the logistics easier to keep track of instead of having a huge drawn out topic with like 25 posts a week and no specific order.

Hey C4L or T4L, remember, you can only use Track equipment and we're starting on 11/1, sorry Oct doesn't count so you'll just have to pop another "3"..

Bowler257628, it's just pins over your avg.  Take TJFreaky 167 x 3 = 501 and he shoots 600(better not..lol, j/k), he's now 99 pins over avg for that week, got it bud?

Vernon, got a Rule huh?  Do you mean the same Rule you asked me to drill for you?...the nerve...LOL  Hey, maybe you can write Track and ask them for some help on the layout or have you already?  Same rules for you man, just gotta throw Track.  You just owe me for the pain and suffering...LMAO

Yeah, this will be our last week of bowling before avgs are turned in but if you don't know it yet, I guess we can submit it with your first week scores cause that's when they'll be on the league sheet.  If anyone wants to calculate their own ahead of time, go ahead and turn them in to Andrew at loose5682.  Thanks...

For all participants,

Pls submit averages to Andrew at loose5682.  If you want, you can also post on "this" thread for others to see.  I've asked Andrew to start another thread which will have our names and beginning avgs, individuals will be responsible for posting their own scores and updated weekly avgs under Andrew's thread.  In "that" thread, we can edit/modify our own avgs and scores week to week.  So first in line will be should be those who bowl Mon, then Tues and so on...pls also use the format suggested by ClutchClay which is shown at the top of this thread, thanks.  Any other questions?  GOOD LUCK and GAME ON!!!

I will start the aforementioned thread tonight after I bowl (subbing tonight! woo hoo!)...would you like it started in the Track thread or the BR Tournaments thread?  I will post the thread like this...

loose5682 - 210

very simple...if i don't have your average, just your name will appear...once the scores start rolling in, the average will be replaced with their score...i.e.

loose5682 - -30

I would also like to include the ball(s) used during the tournament...such as...

loose5682 - -30 (Sheer Havoc, Phenom Unleashed)

So if that works for everyone, we'll do that
