Title: Clean & Dull Status
Post by: Fluff E Bunnie on March 02, 2007, 02:10:40 AM
Hey, does anyone know the current status of Clean & Dull?

I had my pro shop order a giant bottle of it but they are saying that all the suppliers around them are out of it.

If Ebonite gets rid of Clean & Dull I am going to throw a Dixie Cup at their main office.

You know, I didn't think about the possibility of Clean & Dull being phased out when Ebonite acquired Track.  I hope Ebonite continues to develop this cleaner because I really like it.

Also...What is going to happen to the Track Magic Polish.  This was a really good polish to use.

Well I was just wondering if this was just a temporary delay.  Usually they can get me the cleaners I want in like 2-3 days but they are telling me that everyone is out of them for now.

I am wondering if maybe it is just a temporary delay or maybe just a shortage in my area?  It seems idiotic to not continue to make Clean & Dull...  Same with Power Wash...

Is this stuff made by Track or is it made for Track? Aren't most of the cleaners and polishes made by other companies.  Just looked at my big bottle of CND and it says made by Advanced Polishing Products for Track exclusively.  I'm sure if Ebonite doesn't want to keep CND someone else will.

wow,   your good.   now please correct if  i am wrong.  but i believe clean & dull in the 8 oz . bottles was phased out over a year ago.

however if it is indeed in short supply,  which means it may be worth more money,   then i am sure some pba guys will be listing it on ebay real soon.

hows tiger???  you need to ask chad about that sir<<< notice i said sir.

Per my DSM, the Track cleaners are currently being discussed in regards to keeping it within the Track line. If you really like the product guys, I'd advise you to contact Ebonite and let them know as it will be the decision of the brand manager (when chosen) to make this choice.

Ebonite is working very hard at keeping our loyal track fans happy but it would help greatly coming from you (consumers) to let them know what products we want to keep in production.

Please be patient guys as I have still been in constant contact with Ebonite in regards to Track's future and it "IS" very bright!  Sorry but that's all I can say for now, I'll keep you guys posted.

FLUFF,  i agree. powerwash has been well received.   but ebonite has their
spray cleaner, powerhouse.  but ebonite did not have a good gel cleaner like clean & dull, clean & tacky.

i can see them keeping clean & dull / tacky,  but them may not feel the need for powerwash.

and that would be a shame.

Quick Question off topic..

what is the Track Power Wash? I mean like what exactly does it do? Just clean? If it just cleans the ball then why have Clean n' Dull? Just wondering, i never figured this one out

Brian,

I thought I told you this a while ago but I might not have. Tracks power wash is more of a fast spray cleaner you can use to just fast clean your balls with right after use. Clean N Dull/Clean N Tacky are deep gel cleaners that when you use on a ball that you havent cleaned for a while will pull oil out of the coverstock. Not as far down as like a hot water bath but enough to completly change the top surface texture of the ball. Hope that helped.

clean and dull / tacky are gel cleaners,   considered to be stronger at pulling the oil out of a ball.  they also tend to leave the ball a little more tacky.   many bowlers may use a good spray cleaner like powerwash after or durinh bowling,  and then later when they may be at home,  use clean and dull.
especially if they were going to re do the cover.   sanding or polish.

NOT TO PANIC,  we have been selling clean and dull since the early 90's.  but recently we came across a product called extreme dull by lane concepts.

great product!!!!  and it comes in a 8 oz bottle.  now i know clean & dull did also.  but i do believe that their 8 oz bottles were phased out.  and now only the 4 oz {  more costly } bottles are available.

since we have had the new extreme dull on the shelf,  it is outselling the clean & dull / tacky.   main reason is the price.  much better buy for the 8 oz bottle as opposed to the smaller 4 oz bottle.

and the feedback on the product has been excellent.

i do hope that ebonite does keep the track line of cleaners and polish,  especially clean & dull / tacky, and powerwash and magic shine.

but if they don't>>>> life will go on,  and we will sell more lane concepts products.

they have an excellent spray cleaner,  and excellent polish, and an excellent
dull cleaner>>>> not a gel>>>  looks more like a cream.  but does an excellent job cleaning and leaving the ball tacky!!!

I SEE,  so what you are saying here is that you have not tried this other product?????   we have tried them both,  and actually do prefer extreme dull
over clean and dull.  and their extreme clean spray 4 oz bottle,  now out sells
everything we stock.   and we stock many cleaners.

so just in case ebonite does not keep the track cleaners,   we will be prepared.

not sure how long it's been out.  lane concepts has been around for a long time.  we got introduced to the product by one of our clean & dull customers.
he works in a bowling alley and saw a bowler cleaning his ball with extreme clean.  he asked if he could try it,  and did and loved the product.

he then told me about it and we ordered the extreme clean.  and it quickly out sold everything in the shop.  then we tried their dull cleaner.   and the response has been great.  two reasons>>. first it comes in a 8 oz bottle as opposed to c&d which now only comes in a 4 oz bottle.  { and quarts }
so the product is more price friendly >>>  $7.95 c&d 4 oz,   as to $11.95 for extreme dull 8 oz. >>> second,  most of the customers trying the new product
have been users of c & d.  and they seem to like the reaction of this new cleaner.

don't know if ebonite will drop the track line,   hope not,  cause we do plan to still carry it.

Extreme Clean is on the approved list for use during competition.

Not sure about the others, but don't forget the USBC caveat: "USBC does not approve ball cleaning products, but does test them for acceptability. The attached list is representative only of those cleaners that were tested and does not include products in the marketplace that have not been analyzed."

Since Clean N' Dull is on the list, can't imagine why the Lane Concepts products wouldn't also be legal.  Of course, Extreme Dull is advertised to:
quote:
Extreme Dull contains an advanced Water Based formula that cleans better and removes scratches and sanding marks down to 400 grit.  Restores Dull surfaced bowling balls to their "Out-Of-The-Box" condition.

So there may be the chance that it could alter the coverstock and be in violation of Rule 18 - would still be okay to use before or after competition.

An 8 oz bottle?  And the police station is only 4 blocks away!

Is Dull cleaner good for cleaning your golf clubs?  I'd like to use it while sitting around in my underwear, surfing the net, drinking my $4 coffee from Starbucks.

I hear that is what Tiger does, except instead of surfing the net he watches the Golf Channel!

    golf clubs>>>  don't know

as for tiger>>. you would need to speak to chad about that.

as for the 8 oz bottle.  average savings when compared to buying 2- 4 oz bottles of clean and dull.  about $5.00

which means your next coffee at the big star would be free.
and just think how you will enjoy that while surfing the net in your "what"

I just wanted to add a comment that Rick Leong made.  The Track and Columbia polishes and cleaners are made my a company owned by Al Alhm.  If Ebonite doesn't keep him under contract to continue to make the Track and Columbia products, he will come out with his own line, something he should have done a long time ago.  Also, the Clean and Dull and Clean and Tacky are two different products.  I miss the Clean and Polish, that was my favorite polish from any company.

They are???   always thought they were basically the same product. the names are different so people would not worry about using the product on their polished ball.

I hope they come back out.  Life without Clean N' Dull is pretty bleak.  I also love Power Wash as a cleaner.

fluff,  trust me,  it will be ok,  and life will go on.
more then likely it may come out under a new name.
and if you get a chance,  try lane concepts extreme dull.
    you will not be sorry.
    excellent product.
and unlike C & D,  which now was only available in a small expensive 4 oz. bottle.   extreme dull comes in a large more cost friendly 8 oz. bottle.

now i know some shops might still have some of the old C & D in 8 oz bottles left in stock.  but according to our dist.  they have not been made in the 8 oz bottles for sometime now.

and of course C & D is available in quarts.  but most people do not buy it by the quart.

Yeah, I try not to smell my hands or anything while im in "my shop" because I deal with acetone, clean and tacky, polish, the list just keeps on going. I used the stuff last night on a ball, and yes, the reaction I got today was the same as before. Thanks fellas.

The same stuff or not, C&D is on the "Acceptable at any time" list while C&T is on the "Only before or after competition" list.  Maybe that makes a difference to you, maybe not.

I am not the type of person to clean my stuff during a tournament. It's not that big of a deal to me.
