My bowling may have to take a back seat for a long time...
« on: June 04, 2007, 01:06:07 PM »
While making my second run on the Chameleon, things started off perfectly.  Practice was awesome, and so was opening with the first 4 strikes.  I was using my Mean Machine (2000).  I started off at 25, targeted 19, rolled to 15, 10 in the pit each time.  I step up in the 5th and as a I release, I felt and even heard my wrist pop.

I step up in the 6th, and can't even hold the ball in my hand.  On the way home, my wrist swells to at least twice its size.  Whereas it's too late to go to a hospital, I will be going first thing in the A.M. and see waht the deal is....

All I know is, this sucks.

Well, it's been a couple of days now, and it seems to feel okay.  I'm gonna assess how I feel after practice today.  I have a sub to fill in for me in worse case scenario.

I did this exact same thing a few years back and it was after only my 2nd practice ball. I ended up finishing the night by keeping ice on my wrist to numb the pain. The next day I went to a doctor who took xrays and said it was a sprain. He advised take 7-10 days off and the whole sprain works. I did this and the pain got minimally better but I still had no strength and couldn't hold a 10lb. bowling ball even palm up much less throw one. I went to a specialist who did the MRI and found that I had tore all of the ligaments and tendons in the wrist. Ended up with surgery and out for awhile. I could tell things were not getting any better so it was a good thing I went to the specialist. Hopefully, you will be fine and not have to go through this ordeal. I had to wear a Pro-Release Extrended for over a year after I came back and thus, I have also dropped to 14lb. which is fine with me. I also wear a Masters Wrister and some sort of Mineral Ice on the wrist prior to bowling just to keep it comfortable to me. Good Luck.

Thanks.  Well, I guess this is fate.  I'm not able to bowl tonight, have to pull in some serious overtime at work...so I'll have another 4 days of rest before I attack the Cheetah in my Monday league-the more important of the two anyway.

X,

be careful when going back to bowling. I tore my bicep tendon clean off my bowling elbow in early October last year. I would have never known it if I did not try to bowl. and still today, if I am not lifting anything heavy, there is ZERO pain 99% of the time. HOWEVER, as soon as I tried to throw a ball, it was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life, hands down. An MRI revealed the tear almost 2 months later after being bounced around from hospital, to emergency room, to family doctor. Finally a sports medicine doctor decided to do an MRI, something the rest neglected to do. I had to switch to lefty as even with surgery to reattach it, there was NO guarantee I would be able to bowl again....

You should, listen to your body. My family doctor, without doing an MRI, said it was tendonitis, rest it for 3-4 weeks, and prescribed me pretasone (sp) its a form of steroids, which is supposed to clean out the tendonitis...well..I took the entire prescription, I felt decent, went out to throw a ball, and the pain was back like never before. I said enough of this and found the closest sports medicine doc, had an appointment, said we need to do an MRI, the next week I was back for the MRI, later that week they revealed the injury...mind you, I did this on Friday, Oct 6th......I went to the hospital, then the emergency room, then my family doc TWICE...by the time I saw the Sports med doc, it was the day before Thanksgiving, the MRI was the following Tuesday, and they called me Thursday with the results...I lost almost 2 months of time of thinking I was ok, when I was not, because I did not go to a Sports med doc or request an MRI....

If you have an MRI, at least you will KNOW if you tore anything or NOT....its your BEST option...

You want to make sure that there is no long term problem. I know for me I hurt my ankel. The doctors said it healed fine. I started bowling like I was and then last year bang I was bowling and all the time of the little pain I would get I pushed on it wrong and really messed it up again. I went to a foot and ankel specialist. He looked at it and he said that the first time it happen the bone wasnt the problem it was the tendents. He said I would need surgery to have it fixed. He also said if I had it I couldnt be able to bowl. So I dont know if you have ever watched my videos but for those who have I know you guys see on my right foot when I walk with it in my approach I have it massivily duck footed. This is to help me not push off of it again and reinjure the tendents. It is something I have to work around in  my physcial game but it is alway better to know what is wrong and how long it will be wrong, then to not have a clue and just be left woundering. If you want to see the foot thing I am talking about, watch I think eather my Robo Rule video or my rule comparison video. One of them should show it real well.

You guys were right.  I took a week off, and had my PBA experience league tonight-On the cheetah, my 2nd favorite pattern anyway.  In practice, I saw right off the bat that I no doubt have wrist issues.  I can't crank anymore, so I had to resort to stroking-bowling wise that is lol.  Anyway, I actually did okay-244,195,229.

Afterwards I called my doc to see the soonest I can get an MRI done.  She'll call me tomorrow and let me know.

Stay tuned.

Good luck with the MRI Xcessive, I had one on my left wrist 4 months after I had injured it. There were very few things that even bothered it but I bowled lefty one night and it was an excruciating pain I won't forget, I went to the Doc after. Got the MRI and had to have two cortisone shots and therapy due to a partial tear of a tendon. Tendons are interesting because a partial tear can and will heal on its own but surgery can speed up the process though.

Hopefully your injury isn't serious and being able to bowl is good news. Discomfort is still not good as you are not 100%, an MRI will be able to determine if you have a tear for sure and could save you in the long run.

Wow...you can call your doctor late at night and get an MRI possibly set up? And I hardly believe you can shoot those numbers on Cheetah if your wrist is hurt....stroker style or not. I smell BS.

Well, being in a squadron in the military, we are assigned a flight surgeon in every air wing.  This flight surgeon is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Secondly, you say "possibly get an MRI set up" as if 1)It's impossible (possibly where you come from, but that's neither here nor there) and 2)As if I haven't already been seen and was told what the next step would be if I didn't heal.

Lastly, I fail to realize where the BS is in shooting 668(which was actually one of the lower sets tonight) with a injured wrist.  I guess the guy in my last league, who shot 790 with a huge brace on his left leg is BS too huh?  Do me a favor, and stop drinking that "I don't know what the hell I'm talking about" juice.

I'd love for you to come down here and bowl, you'd sure be the best in our league.

Ronnie Russell, the 2007-2008 exempt player on tour, struggles to average a 190 in our league. So I doubt what you are bowling on is nothing like down here.

Yeah, I know what you're saying.  Their version of the Cheetah is different than the version I played on a few months back in a different house.  That's the only thing I really don't like about the experience league.  I mean they try, but I know the conditions aren't true PBA patterns.
