2 1/2" pin to pap drilling
« on: August 15, 2006, 09:23:38 AM »
At the Seminar on Sunday, Del suggested a 2 1/2" pin to PAP layout for my Artillery, along with taking off some of the shine (for wet/dry conditions). I never had this drilling on any of my equipment, so I wanted to know from you guys what should I expect as far as shape of the shot and what is the best type of line for this layout. I will pick up my equipment on Thursday

Buck,

Did he give you a distance above your midline for the pin placement?

Generally getting that close to PAP with the pin will cause a ball to roll very early.....It is a pretty good layout for oil OR to control overreacting backends.

I'm not sure. I left the sheet with the suggestions at the pro shop. I'll get it on Thursday. BTW, The Solution you gave me is plugged and will be punched then also.

I LOVE my Elite pearl with this pin to pap distance, for pin above the midline distance i put the pin on the line from my ring finger to pap so it wouldnt be very far, espec on something with a 1" pin( drillsheets back in the day would tell you to lay out an axis-leverage drill like that) Curious on what it would do on a nwewer surface/core combo myself actually, wonder what an xception would do?  2" pin low top, old school 10.30 layout, hmmmmmm.....

oops!! yeah shot shape, with my Elite it gave the ball a better chance to read the middle 20 ft(where puched up label it ignored the lane for about the front 40) With white finger inserts you can 'see' the earlier read.  While it still covered plenty of boards it did so a bit smoother. Still pretty sharp mind you, you'd have to drill an Elite pearl real weak to stop it moving hard from the breakpoint to the pins.

Hey Buck,

I agree with Carl with the reaction of the ball.  Typically this will help control the break point and keep it smoother once it encounters friction.  My best guess on Del's suggestion is, along with the smoother breakpoint, he also suggested to remove the shine from the ball so it doesn't store too much energy which can make a ball jumpy or snappy off the free hook.  Due to the fact that we can get such a hard snap from the dry area on wet/dry conditions, this is a nice layout for some control.  Keep us posted once you try it bud.
