Desert Heat - Terrible Crack
« on: October 15, 2006, 11:35:35 AM »
Was going to bowl today, and was loading my gear into my bags. Made sure every ball was ok, and the final ball was the desert heat. Picked it up and noticed a huge crack right above the finger. I look at it - and instantly see it going all the way around the ball. So it cracked from the left finger all the way around the ball - to the thumb hole.

Pictures:

Now, the only problem with this is; is I did not buy it from my pro-shop buddy. I bought it from Bowling.com which is a distributor of Track equipment. Another bad thing is - is this ball had not alot of life - 5-6 Games MAX on it. Everything was in perfect shape, the house did not go under 60 degrees and it had no other contact towards anything.

So I am asking, who should I bring attention to on this one? I am going to my pro-shop buddy tomorrow to see also what I should do.

Thanks alot guys - I just want to get this ball resolved and hopefully another one to enjoy as I did this one.

I am not sure if Tappster is THE Charlie Tapp, but if he is I don't think he is the type of guy who would not help a fellow Track owner. You guys jumped all over this guy without seeing he might be trying to help?

To me, his first post clearly shows he's not trying to help.

If he was trying to help, he might want to think about wording things a little differently next time.  His post came off like he was trying to put down lane1what because he bought it online.  Just the way it was worded and the fact that it was in big bold text makes it look like he was being a smart***.  And then to come back and ask someone if they are 12 because he didn't like what he had to say???  Not the right way to get people to respect what you have to say...

Such a reply is wrong on so many levels, it's impossible to know where to begin.

Are you 12 years old?

My point is why would a pro shop want to warranty the ball you bought online? Call Track or where you bought it from.

It wouldn't that wasn't the point and he wasn't asking any pro shop to do it.
or can't you read?

But you know what, Mr. Pessimism? I do know of shops that would try to help their bowlers, even when they brought problems for which they are obviously not responsible. like this one.

Nobody's gives a rat's patootie whether you'd help them or not. Nobody asked you to either, did they?

Why do you just come in here mouthing off like that? The guy asked for help in a bad situation and all you can think of are ways to make it worse?

Small wonder people think ballreviews is getting worse.

Shipper,

I don't give a crap who he is. With that attitude, what difference does he make who he is. All he tried to do was make things worse. Lane1what was asking for help in a bad situation. He wasn't asking his pro shop for help, because he didn't buy the ball there. Does Tappster make any offers of help? No.

Hey Tappy,

You wouldn't be a disgruntled shop owner now would you?

BTW, if you hang around here long enough with us "12 year olds" you might find out that Charlest has a lot of knowledge to offer.

Your initial response didn't justify your "point", as you stated in the second post. Some pro shop owners will actually try to help a customer in hopes that they remain in the fold or become a new customer. Sounds to me like the cracking issue is not an isolated case here by the other responses.

Contact Bowling.com and see what they say(send them your photo's) I can't see any ball selling site not trying to help you, since it a cover/core defect.

Thanks for your help guys. My pro-shop director has got in under control.

I am going back tomorrow because he is going to explain what is going on.

And what is all this "nonsense" about Tappster? Most distributors or sellers that you buy off-line will not warranty the ball after its been drilled. Reason being is that thumb slugs and inserts all cause something to an effect.

Thanks Charlest for helping out here.

But its all under control now. My pro-shop director is apart of the Columbia Staff and I am pretty sure he can get me a replacement.

Should have bought it from a Pro Shop and there would be no problem with warranty. If I was your shop man I would tell you tough noogies, send it back to bowling.com

If he only put 5-6 games on it chances where that he purchased the ball after it became discontinued.  If that's the case the pro shops probably couldn't even get one in.  I tried a couple weeks ago to get a new one and had 3 pro shops tell me that they couldn't get one.  Track doesn't have a dry lane ball right now to replace the desert heat.  Basically the only place to pick one up now is on-line

To clarify - I bought the ball before it was actually "discontinued". I bought it about May/June before they decided to put it with the others. I had not bowled with it for sometime because it is fall league season and the lanes are usually nice.

That was just to clarify - not to dog. I was pointing that out since it could be a factor here.

Tapp, it was just the statement.

You say you would send me to the company that sold it to me, but you drilled it for me.

If you actually cared about the customer and you drilled the ball - You would have sympathy.

Tappster,

Are you Charlie Tapp the senior pro who runs the pro shop in Olympia lanes?

No offense taken. I understand.  Just was trying to provide a reason where buying the ball from your local pro shop wouldn't help since chances are they couldn't even get it.  I had 3 pro shop owners tell me when mine started to crack that they couldn't get a replacement maybe I should try to find one online.  My proshop was willing to get me a replacement ball at his cost since the ball cracked while he was repairing a plug. But it was going to be with a Arsenal Artillery or a Heat Blast since the Desert Heat was no longer in stock with his supplier.
