I'm switching
« on: June 25, 2005, 06:06:20 AM »
Since Brunswick has decided to move their plant to Mexico I've decided to make a switch. I'm a very firm believer in "Made in America" and this decision was a rough one since I've been with them for 15 years. My question for all you Track gurus lies in a heavy oil ball. I have a lot of revs and med-high ball speed. I'm interested in a GP2 and was wondering if this would be too much ball or stick with an original Rule? These I've purchased already and am looking for suggestions.

Heavy- ?????????
Med-Heavy- 5.0
Med- Slash
Med-Light- Heat
Light- Desert Heat

Taking a wild guess here, until the Track gurus chime in, I'd suggest that since you're using the 5.0 for medium-heavy oils, AND since the Rule is close in overall performance to the 5.0 (No, they are not the same, just close, AFAIK), I think the GP2, with its apparent large range of flexibility, would serve your purposes as a heavy oil ball.

Talk to the gurus (Carl, Rick, Clint and Anthony) about how to drill it for your release, and take comfort in the fact their "guess-timates" are about 95-99% accurate.

twister,

Welcome aboard bud. Sorry that it has taken a move as negative as what Brunswick is doing to get you here, but we will help you out no matter the situation.

Looking in your profile I see that you have a Goliath for the heavy stuff. What you would get out of the GP2 is a similiar early roll (the GP2 comes 1500 smooth, the Goliath has a much lower OOB grit to it) as you get with the Goliath, but the GP2 will give you more turn in the backend.

I hope this helps your decision. Once you have decided, if you need layout help do not hesitate to ask. The staff members here are as helpful as any of the others from any forum on ballreviews.

Goodluck!

The main reason I was looking at the original Rule was that I don't have a great relationship with particles unless it's a low load pearl particle. So I was kinda looking too stay away from GP2, Blue heat, or the Arsenal. I figured I would be able to put more surface on the Rule or drill it a little more aggressive.

twister,

Since you are new to the Track Forum you may not have heard, there is a huge difference between the GP2 and Arsenal Aggressive when compared to other particle balls.

GP2: Has what Track calls dual particle coverstock. There are 2 particles in the cover, one large and hollow and the other small and solid. Where this comes into play is throughout the entire lane. The large particles help it begin its early roll, but once it gets down the lane the solid particles come into play and it allows for a very strong backend reaction for a high load particle.

I have had SEVERAL bowling balls from nearly every company, and the Rule GP2 is something to see. You will be suprised at the backend recovery you get with this ball. Its backend is every bit as strong as the Rule.

Arsenal Aggressive and Angular: These balls use a particle that Track named the Peak Particles. Word is that Del Warren has been working on this coverstock since his days with AMF, it is a very unique particle and these are the only bowling balls to use it. According to the info Track released these particles are shaped like CORN FLAKES....very small and very solid compared to most other particles that have a tendancy to wear over time. The reaction these particles give on the lane is very sweet.......They allow the ball to get down the lane, and backend like a reactive ball. I was amazed at the reaction I got. I got the kind of reaction out of the Arsenal Aggressive that I wanted out of the Ultimate Inferno I had a while back.

Hey twister,

Like Ex mentions, our GP2 is a first of its kind.  Typically in design for heavier oil balls, most companies were producing lower rg's so the ball could rev up faster and roll sooner but our GP2 has an rg of 2.57 which helps push it downlane but still finishes very well.

Based on your game however, this ball would be for floods only.  Your rev rate is very strong and pretty comparable to achappy and Mitch B (Track staffers here).  Their feedback and info would tie in more to your style.  Any questions...just ask.  We're here to help....

Forgive me if I am treading on sacred ground by mentioning another ball company here but....

Didn't Storm have a version of the PRO-thane cover with 2 different sized particles in it? I am thinking it was the PRO-Thane MT they used on the Super Power or SP pearl???

Anybody????

Charge me with blasphemy if you must but curiosity killed this cat :-)

You know what would fit into your game real nice.

A Phenom Unleashed

Low load particle that acts like a reactive. It gets very good length and reacts well to carrydown. I know that it is an older ball but new might not always be the answer.

Another option - The gp2 with a special drilling. Contact TenpinsPro and tell him you were talking to LaneBed.

I will post it when a get a few more games on it.
