Drilled an Xception...
« on: June 08, 2005, 12:32:45 AM »
I have started to finally drill out my new batch of 15 lb'rs and last night I drilled an Xception (kept it box) and a V2 Sanded (polished with extender polish).  A V2 was my benchmark ball within my old 16's so I drilled it like my favorite one and the Xception is fairly close (5" pin-pap and 6" MB, with pin above fingers).  I was able to play around 18 at the arrow with the V2 as I expected and the ball got down the lane nicely and made a great read back to the pocket.  I picked up the Xception after getting warmed up and after throwing a few balls I was surprised by what I saw...

...more midlane read, a sooner change in direction and more overall hook!  After reading how much this ball was supposed to be a skid/flip reaction I thought the ball would push a bit more than it did.  I was forced atleast 3 boards left at the arrows to get a consistent look out of the ball.  Maybe I just need mess with the surface a little bit, but it's not what I expected.  I can see where it will be a good ball, but it doesn't fit the slot I thought it would in my bag...yet.

What were the lanes like? Were they just oiled, broken down a little, or dry(er). I ask as the only time my original X reads early is on a drier condition where there is more friction in play.

If that is not it, some Delayed or Magic Shine should help you get closer to the desired reaction, as you probably already know.

The lanes were fresh oil and where actually a little bit heavier than I have seen them since the summer oil pattern was put out.  I brought out my High Energy with me as that's the ball I've been throwing the most as of late.  That ball didn't want to "peel off" really well unless I kept it tight or out to the dry.

I'm going to mess with the surface some more though...definatley seems like that should do the trick.

The main reason that I started this thread is that I'm the first and only person using an X in my area.  We sold a bunch of Rules, but for some reason nobody was interested in the X??

SURPRISING, as in my area, especially after Walter won with the X, it was more popular, although many Rules are still in the bags with people. Surprises me it is that strong, but, like we said, the surface adjustment should do the trick.
