Super Freak Polished?
« on: May 05, 2004, 08:15:22 AM »
I recently bowled in the pepsi tournament. Being second shift, I figured I should polish up my super freak. What a mistake!!! I couldnt even get it to move. My revmaster in box condition out hooked it by a lot. So, any ideas to why it wouldnt?? By the way, I am considering sanding it down to 400 grit. Tell me what you think of that. Thanks. Kyle

When you put polish over a particle, in most cases you are going to have to work with the surface UNDER the polish because the particle will not grab the dry like a reactive will.

Polish on a Super Freak....that really does not make much sense (no offense). This ball rolls early naturally, and lays off on the backend. It was designed for that early roll because it was meant for oil. Sanding it down to 400 grit would make more sense, but do not expect to be able to use it on anything other than a flood.

I said the stuff above, but that is going to depend on your game, how you throw the ball, ball speed etc...

What layout do you have on the SuperFreak and where is the MB located?

Well first off I polished it hoping to be able to get more use out of it. Like maybe a little local use. It is drilled with the pin under ring in fact a little drilled through and the MB is way right of thumb. Good 5 or 6 inches. So for future reference I need to sand before I polish???? Also, what grit would be best?? I throw ball around 17 to 18 mph and I am more of a down and it player. Track is low but am not a spinner. More of a stroker. LMK what you think. Thanks. Kyle

Also, does grit affect a ball burning up?? or is that only coverstock??

Well, surface is the grit that you have on it. If that makes sense*L*

IF you sand a plastic ball to 80 grit and throw it on dry lanes it will burn up. So when I suggested or agreed with you taking the Super Freak to 400 grit, if you try to throw it on too dry of a condition then it will burn up.

You do not NEED to sand before you polish. If you polish a 1500 smooth coverstock it is going to go longer and be less aggressive if you polish a 800 grit surface.

If you have any other questions, feel free to message me.
