Ebonite TNV VS Track Tantrum
« on: August 29, 2008, 03:48:29 PM »
After a question about the TNV cover (http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=205643&ForumID=5&CategoryID=2), I was wondering , if anyone knows, since these two balls are being poured by the same people, how they would match up in a side-by-side comparison?

Being poured by the same people is about where the comparison should end. All of the brands poured at Hopkinsville have their own unique coverstocks and cores.
With that being said, the Tantrum is lower rg. I have a TNV before signing with Track and it was one of the better pieces I owned. It was very clean up front, read the later part of the midlane well and was pretty angular out of box. I scuffed it up a touch to even it out. The Tantrum rolls pretty quick and it sneaky strong on the back part of the lane. It is a lot of performance for the price point. You might get a touch more overall performance from the TNV but you are going to pay a lot more for it. Depends on what you are looking for. I would classify the Tantrum is one of, if not the best, medium oil ball for the money on the market.

Thanks Louis,

What I currently have is a TNV drilled pin above the bridge and the M.B. in the strong position.  The current surface is at 1000 abralon.  It also has an X-hole on the val, maybe an inch down from the pap.

This ball ( the TNV ) is on its second season, has quite a few games on it, and is another "used gem" that I got in a trade.  I've been wanting a NEW ball ( would be my first "brand new" ball in about three years as I've been buying used stuff ), and the owner here went to a drilling/show seminar where he got some good deals on Track stuff and stocked up on a few.  The Tantrum looks really good and he said he would make me a good deal because he got them at a discount at the show.

I guess, as a better comparison for the TNV, I should be looking at the Up-Rising.  Its just that that danged Tantrum is such a piece of eyecandy, that it catches my eye every time I go by the shop, like its calling my name or something.

The TNV would probably fit inbetween the Tantrum and UpRising. The Tantrum might give you two boards less hook. The fact that it is new and has a fresh cover, it might even hook more! If you did a Tantrum with the pin down, it would complement the TNV well. It would read the lane earlier and give you plenty of control. Then, when it started hooking to early, you could go right to your TNV and not miss a beat.
