Heat Blast vs Crunch Time
« on: November 08, 2006, 03:22:10 PM »
There's been so much sadness in the Track forum so I want to get back to the constructive part of this forum by getting you guys to think about equipment instead of the drama.

Fellas,

These are my Heat Blast and Crunch Time pics:

Heat Blast:

Crunch Time:

I've been having success with the Heat Blast and I want to experiment with the CT, getting ready to have a new thumb slug put in. I haven't thrown it since I changed my pitches.

Does the CT go under the HB, and how much difference in reaction should I see between these two?

Thanks.

NOrmally, I'd say the CT would fit under the HB by maybe 1/2 to 1 a notch, with more length because of the higher polish and the half pearl cover and flippier core. The CT's cover is actually slightly stronger (PowerPlus Ex) than the HB's (plain PowerPlus) but the HB has that compound polish, vs the CT's gloss polish.

That said, your drill of the HB with that very high pin vs the smoother, earlier roll type of drill PLUS the kicked out CG would tend to make their ball reaction much closer, in my opinion.

The actual results will depend more on your release and the oil pattern (house blends tend to disguise ball differences.)

Normally, that is with the same drill, I'd tend to think the CT could be a goto ball on a house blend. League transitions tend to be minor tweaks and this could help you stay in your comfort zone. But often, with some transitions, you'd use a much milder ball and stand deeper; then the CT would probably not be the goto ball.

Thanks charlest. I have a Solution PPEX to go under the HB

Here is a Pic:

I'm thinking the CT would go between the HB and SolPPEX. On Saturday, when I get the slug redone on the CT, I will roll the 3 side by side to see the differences. I'm bowling on a second shift which is getting dryer each week. I want to see if I could go between 7 and 13 with the CT or Solution after it gets too dry for the Heat Blast.

Buck,

I agree the Solution PPEx would more logically be the one to go under the HB.

I have two Soultion PPEx and had 3 CTs. I love the Soln PPEX, but I warn you the CT's ball motion and pin action are addicting. Ultimately, I found its use restricted by its drill. SUrface changes made a difference, but stock surface was always very good. A real love-hate realtionship. You'll want to use it, love it, then 3 seconds later hate it. You have been warned. You'll find reasons to bring it; then wonder why. hee-hee-hee!!!!
