Crunchtime vs Solution PPEX
« on: August 18, 2006, 03:59:30 AM »
I have just received a crunchtime and a solution PPEX.  How do the two balls compare?  To me the stats pretty much look the same on the track website.  Is the solution ppex a pearl reactive and crunchtime a pearl solid?

CT is a pearl/solid mix, I believe.  I've also heard that the CT is much stronger than advertised.  I think the PPEX will have more backend and be more skid-flippy.

Don't know about the Crunch Time, but the Solution PPEX is a good ball and fits great below the Arsenal Artillery or Heat Blast and a Desert Heat. It's great on light/medium oil conditions.

So having said what you guys have said.  Would it be justified to have both in my bag for a typical house shot?

UNless you varied the drill or the surface preparation by enough, probably not.

CT is earlier; the Soln PPEx is longer with more backend (both of mine are drilled identically). The CT seems to need slightly more or slightly longer oil to stay effective (emphasis on "slightly"). I find more overall utitlity in my Soln. Keep in mind the CT has a compound finish as stock, while the SOlution is highly polished. That cover prep could be what causes the need for more or longer head + midlane oil.  Both, as far as I know, are solid/pearl combinations. Also the RG differential is larger on the CT for slightly earlier and more flare than the Solution PPEx; this alos contributes to the CT needing more oil.

If yo uwanted to pair them as a combo or Go-To balls, I'd suggest drilling the CT slightly stronger and making the cover just slightly stronger (less polish). Then you could use the CT for medium oil and the Soln PPEx for medium-ligh toil. Both hit very hard!

Hey Dabalos,

I agree wholeheartedly with Mr Charlest.  The separation you will get also depends on your overall hook capability.  For those who can hook the ball a fair amount, they may get a 3-4 board diference. After reviewing your profile, I'd say these 2 balls may look a little close.

However, the recommendation that Charlest offers is great (take down the CT and drill strong).  By doing this, you can justify having both because they will offer you different looks on reaction and the amount of oil that they can handle.  Hope this helps some...

Dabalos,

Like charlest and Rick mentioned....drill them differently. They are pretty close.

The only difference that I saw in them OOB is that the CrunchTime was not quite a sensative to oil as the Solution PP EX.

Goodluck,
Carl

I compared the two balls last nite and you were all right. The crunchtime was a little easier to control but they both handled the lane condition about the same.   Im thinking that i will be taking down the crunchtime from 2000 grit to about 1000.  I will update you guys on the result of this.
