All of the recent talk about C300 stuff cracking easily brings me to post this topic here since they have the same people make Track's coverstock.

I have not had a Track ball crack at all on me. I have drilled many Track balls, and the only one to crack was a Phenom that I drilled. It cracked around the fingers after about 20 games (it was a customer's). Track quickly replaced it. That is my only experience with Track equipment cracking.

If C300s stuff cracks easily you would think that Track would as well. I do not see that at all. NOW----I have drilled several Track balls for myself (Mutant, Threat, Phenom, Phenom Unleashed, Darkside, Crunch) and none of them cracked at all. I make sure to bevel (or sand) around the finger and thumb holes enough to ensure it not cracking. I do not use Grips, and have not had a ball crack. I have not had a ball from any company crack-----except Ebonite, thus the reason I do not use them anymore.

What are your experiences with Track equipment cracking? IF you have had them crack around the finger holes I do not want to hear about if the driller did not round the edge of the hole off. If the edge is not rounded off, it is destined to crack, I do not care who makes the ball.

I have found what you stated to also be true concerning cracking for over 20 years. Usually, if the finger or thumb holes do not have enough bevel, they'll tend to crack fairly quickly with or w/o inserts. Another fast way of a bridge cracking is if the lateral pitches in the fingers are not drilled with some form of parallel impression(finger holes that meet at the bottom), there is no bridge an inch down from the top. The problem in distinguishing this is, that grips hide this from the bowler, you don't know if your ball driller has drilled the proper pitches or not in the finger holes. Cracking can also happen when a bowler tracks full roller or has a very high track which rolls very close to the holes. I drilled over 100 Track balls this year and had only one problem, so definately not enough to say that the shells have a problem in solidity. I haven't had a problem with Col products either. Not sure if you're hearing the old myth about Col pulling the warranty 20 years ago when grips were introduced and shops weren't putting them in properly.

Haven't drilled enough Ebonites to say but have seen a few at my distributors where they crack right thru the pin area leading to the fingerholes. I think it's in their materials used while attempting to produce their lower RG balls, it's too light, not enough density. This has been my experience.

Have had tons of COlumbia balls, a few Track balls and lots of others. Have had NONE crack except a Blue Hot FLame - long, 8-10" crack and just Monday, my beloved Bolt Pro has a hairline crack from one finger hole to the other. Sob, sob! I wonder if that's a symptom of some other trouble down in the core (core separation? although it doesn't sound like it); the ball has not hit as well as it seems it should lately. But I did have a 258 on Saturday with 12 good shots - one 4 pin and one 10 pin. RIP!
