Title: Machine or Agent?
Post by: nospareball on July 03, 2006, 04:12:16 AM
I posted this over the in Storm forum too, but I'm looking for opinions on both sides.

I'm looking to get one of these two balls as my main go to ball.  Right now I have a Storm SS Pearl and a Ragin Banshee, but I'm looking for something stronger in the midlane and good continuation.  I've seen videos of the Machine and the ball really drives through the pins, does anyone have any experience with both of these balls that could give a good comparison?

Stats are in my profile

Hey Clint,

Just basing things off the spec sheet, the Machine has a slightly higher RG which if I'm correct by nature, the higher the RG the more length the ball will get naturally. There is not much difference in the differential either. I believe either one would work for you with the right layout. I hope this helps some buddy! God Bless You and have a great week!

machine of coarse. machine has such a great backend and a smooth transition ball that hits the pocket if you do your job. You would love this ball sanded or polished(for me polished) - and it kills those pins.

While I can not give a comparison for obvious reasons, from looking at the stats themselves, here is what I came up with:

The Ragin, SS Pearl, and Agent all share the same base cover, Reactor. While the Ragin is particle, it still uses the Reactor as the base.

Also, even if you buy the Machine, the problem in your arsenal in the midlane might be because you have the 2 balls you mentioned and they are both pearls and you are looking to add another ball, both of which are pearls as well. Maybe a switch to a different type of cover by itself (Fang LS particle) will be stronger in the midlane and you will get the job done, but I suspect you need something that starts up quicker and a pearl may not be the answer. You may want to look at the Robo Rule....heck, even though the Mean Machine is a pearl, it does come out of the box dull....or, you could even take the shine off of a Machine...but still with both Machines, the pearl is still underlying in the ball...although the Mean is a brand new cover...so I reallycan't comment on the ball until I punch mine sitting at my house until this weekend...

I own both. I like both but i love my machine. Its more consisent. and more forgiving.  With the agent i always have to adjust. With the machine i hardly change where i stand or where i aim. Hope this was helpful.

Clint,

Grab a Machine. The cover takes change easily and since it is asymmetrical you have the ability to have your ball driller place the MB in a position to help you pick up the midlane roll you are lacking. The MB in the Machine is very strong...so you will get the desired reaction as long as it is drilled properly. Depending on the condition you bowl, you may have to change the surface, but I get very good midlane out of mine with the OOB finish.

Goodluck,
Carl

Well, I decided to order a Machine today.  2.5-3oz top, and a 2-3in pin.  I'm a very high tracker, first oil ring clips the thumb, about 1" from fingers, PAP is something like 6"over and 1"up, how should I have this thing drilled?

Pearl covers seem to match up well for me since I don't encounter heavy oil or sloppy backends very often.  Most of the time I'm moving way left with my SS Pearl, and I really don't have a lot of revs.  I'd classify myself as a power stroker, higher speed than a stroker, and a bit more revs.

Looking forward to throwing this thing in about a week.  Thanks for the advice guys!

Giving some details on how your other stuff is drilled will help with suggestions.

The Track Machine Rocks. You said you want good continuation - this ball drives very hard through the pocket.

My SS Pearl is drilled roughly 3x3 pin up and right of ring, cg straight down.  The Ragin is drilled pin over ring cg in grip center, probably a 4x6 drilling.  The SS has a wicked backend, but won't handle much oil.  The Ragin handles a little bit more oil, but doesn't move on the backend like the SS.  Both balls go pretty long, I was hoping the Ragin would start up a bit sooner but no dice.

Clint,

I would suggest a 3 3/4-4in pin about 2 3/4 above your midline with the MB at 4- 4 1/4in from PAP.

This layout will give you decent midlane and will still continue on the backend.

I hope this helps.

From one Clint to another...I agree with Carl's layout idea.

Well, I got my Machine from Buddiesproshop last week, here are the specs.

15lbs 3oz
2.5oz top
2.5-3" pin

It's a nice looking ball.  I'm having it drilled up this weekend, I'll let you guys know how things go.  Thanks for all of the help.
