Season high with Mean/Power
« on: April 04, 2007, 12:06:15 AM »
Well, I threw another 600 series with my new Track setup for leagues, a Mean and a Power.  I got the Power recently, and so early on was making the mistake of using it even though I shouldn't.  I've had SO MUCH success with the Mean on my heavier THS, I should be using it from the start.  I shot an ok 192 that first game, as I had carry issues with the Power, but I was cleaning up my spares.  I also struck out in the 10th when I finally got wise and switched to the Mean.  The second game I threw my high game for the year, a 242 with the Meanie for the first 7 frames and an off the sheet finish with the power.  I also won the doubles pot for 175 bucks!  The third game stunk, I was sticking with the Power again when I shouldn't have been.

Anyhow, I'm not sure the Power is filling the niche I hoped it would.  Like some have suggested, it really is just as powerful as the Meanie, it just goes about it in a different way, all in the backend.  The Meanie has been great for me because it has a nice, heavy roll and makes a controlled turn to the pocket.  Unless I get it out to the dry early, the ball just does not snap.  I love how well I'm able to control it.  The Power is a great ball, but I don't know if I like that type of reaction.  It just feels "touchy" to me.  Is there anything that has the same controlled, heavy backend I'm seeing on the Mean but usable when the lanes start to break down?

Oh, and is it too late to join the Legion?

Ryan,

I would suggest the Inertia for what you are looking for.  The particle load will tame the backend.  I have a control drill on mine with the surface at 1000 Abralon and really like it.  If you have any questions about the Inertia, PM me.

By the way, nice shooting!

I also have a MM & PM along with an Equation. The PM is at 2000 Abralon to fit between the other 2. Still a strong backend with less length than OOB, but not as jumpy. Alot cheaper than redrill/different ball & will serve same purpose. Surface is 80% of ball reaction. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I probably don't have the room or money for another new ball anyhow.    Maybe I'll just start bringing my Doom along with me too.

I've both the Power and Mean (2).  Jury still out on the Power as I'm rather spoiled from the way 1 of my MM rolls.  First MM is polished like a marble!  Talk about very strong move to the pocket! .. OMG!  The only other ball I have which reacts in a similar, yet slightly weaker motion is my Domination.  As for the other MM, I've decided to leave it dull.  Will throw it today before league and see what kind of reaction it yields.

In regards to the PM, so far it has definitely provided a different shape in reaction.  It's deceptively (yeah pretty accurate statement ) strong.  When my MM becomes too strong, I usually go to my Domination.  Perhaps today I will go to the PM instead.  Give you an idea of the difference between the MM & Domination, my pollished MM is a good 5-9 board (left - I'm RH) in starting position on the approach for me.  MM cover is much stronger (both balls drilled the same)

Nice bowling Ryan, good for you bud.

Where's your mass bias on the Power?  Remember, mass bias is what helps us dictate "reaction shape" of a bowling ball.  We can make the ball react the way we want it to.  Send me a pic and I'll help you out.

NEVER TOO LATE!  As my Tag Team partner has stated, the Legion still lives and Mr. Hickland at Ebonite has great things already in design and (maybe) testing phase.  I will be making my trip soon and I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

LONG LIVE THE LEGION!

Rick--

There's a pic of the layouts on all my present balls in my profile.  The Mean and Power are set up nearly identical.  I'm starting to think maybe flippy balls aren't for  me.    I do have an Inertia on the way that I traded for, so we'll see how that one goes.  I might knock the shine off of it to get it to read a bit earlier and tame up the backend, we'll see.

Ryan, responded to pm.  Keep me informed and I'll help provide the reaction desired, thanks.
