Title: Need some advice from you Track staffers please
Post by: thedjs on December 17, 2014, 02:12:00 PM
Right now I've got an Ebonite Legacy (at box finish) and a Track Lx05 with polish.  For me the Legacy is about 4 to 5+ boards stronger than the Track.  What I need is a ball under the Lx for drier conditions.  I'm looking at the Hx05 or the Tour X.  I've tried a couple of Columbia Eruptions (Violent and the Pro Hybrid) and neither of those worked for me.  For that reason, I'm a little concerned that the Tour X might give me the same problems.  I'd like to get a ball that I can go more direct with rather than moving way left out of my comfort zone.  My A game (if I had one) is standing on 17 to 20 and throwing at 10.  Last outing with the polished Lx05 I was standing on 30 and throwing at 13.  Even then I had problems with the ball finishing high.  I've got slower speed and probably average revs, if that will help.

Any advice on these two balls, and a possible drilling, would be appreciated.

Why did the 2 eruptions not work?

Theoretically both of the eruptions should fit under the LX05. If they didn't work because they were too strong still, your best option might be something like a Roto Grip Scream or a Track 300A if you can find one

I have the Tour X and it's really a solid medium oil ball.  It may be a bit strong for what you're looking for.

I would look more towards the Hx05 (with a longer pin-to-pap layout) as I think that ball would handle a little more friction and the Tour X would handle a little more oil.

On Edit: I'm not a staffer, sorry!

Tour X probably has too much back end to really be "under" the HX05.  You might could do some kind of trick drill, but I think the cover is just too aggressive.

I have had success with players that want to stay out or in the track longer, with the HX05 drilled similar to: 70 X 1.5 X 30.  Interested in drilling one of these and maybe a 300C solid like this for myself.  Decent length and pretty smooth.  The cover on the HX05 is really a little mild.  Waiting for the "MX05" type ball if they make one.

I agree with everything said above the Tour X is going to be smoother throughout the lane however it is going to pick in the back end and depending on where you bowl the more polish the more it could respond to the friction.  The Hx05 is going to be a little earlier and it is not going to stop once it gets going.  For the Lx05 you can try to add like 3000 or 4000 to knock that polish off.

Look into the Deep Freeze.  As someone with a high rev rate; I have been able to go straighter the past 2 weeks in my league and have only had to move 3 boards with my feet both nights.  That ball is great for getting through the heads clean and still be pretty smooth without the flippiness of a pearl with the out of box surface.
