Rule Delta 1 vs. Havoc...
« on: January 13, 2006, 02:12:13 PM »
I just picked up a Delta 1 for a good price. ($89)
How much stronger is the coverstock and core than the Havoc?
Just trying to get a feeling for the ball, before it arrives.
Haven't seen one yhtown yet.

The Delta's core and cover are both stronger.

Most people that have used the Havoc are pretty suprised at the overall strength of the ball. Compared to the Delta the Havoc is probably VERY CLOSE as far as how soon the ball picks up roll....but the Delta has more backend and is much more continuous once it makes its move.

Overall the Delta is quite a few boards stronger.

In my opinion the Delta is one of the best balls I have ever thrown. I am more of a down and in player and this ball lets me do that with back ends. I have shot more 240 plus games with this ball than any other Track stuff so far.

Hey Duke,

I also agree with what has been said.  The Havoc has a strong cover but it rolled earlier for me where the Delta 1 pushes down lane (for a heavier oil ball) farther and then makes a strong turn on the backend.  Let us know what reaction shape you want from the Delta and we'll help you place the mass bias accordingly, thanks.

I agree with the other guys on all of these points, but also in the future , if you can, try to pick up the Arsonal Reactive.  I think it is probably the best bang for your buck out there right now.  Although 89 bucks for a delta ain't bad at all...  : )

Rick,
I'm going to drill it up for my Sport League (Havoc works great, except when the  pattern is a little heavier) and also for USBC Open in Corpus Christi.
My Havoc has a 5" pin and is drilled 5 X 4 . . . Ball reacts great except on heavier patterns. I was thinking of laying the Delta out the same . . . since it's much stronger on the backend, it should turn the corner when I move inside 3rd arrow, which the Havoc will not do. Or should the Delta be drilled to start up earlier?

Thanks,

Duke, I'd say a 4x3mb with pin about 1.5-2 inches above mid line should work nicely.  If your pin is that high up on the Havoc, we can go lower on the Delta to get some more separation plus the Delta does push down lane pretty easily.  I'm thinking about the 3mb for some roll because we don't want something too angular on the backend for the sport condition.  It can get a little tricky on controlling the breakpoint because typically on sport shots we don't have a lot of "free hook" to miss to.  Let me know if this sounds like what you're looking for or I can help suggest another layout, thanks.

Rick,

That sound like a good layout. Exactly, as far as the "free hook" goes. I don't want anything too angular, especially if I try to use it on the ABC Nationals (I mean USBC Open) shot.

Reading the specs on the Track site, seems like the ball gets some decent length, naturally.

Thanks,

I have the surfaces the same on my Havoc and Delta 1, and the MBs are in the same place with both balls.  The Havoc is pin-over-ring, and the Delta 1 is pin-below and right-ring.  Even with both at 600 gritt + Brunswick High Gloss Factory, there is PLENTY of separation between the two (I promise).  I recommend this setup whole-heartedly, and have the score inrease to prove it.

Bartender,
I have my Havoc 1000 grit Abralon, no polish, reaction is great.
My Havoc is above the ring finger, the Delta will be below the ring (approx.).
Sounds like what I'm looking for in a ball. I have 2 Animals, and another Havoc (undrilled). I think this will fit into my Track arsenal well.
