Title: Old Pearl Red Heat vs Threat
Post by: Monster Stitch on April 28, 2003, 11:31:08 PM: I know they both have the same core but the
cover stocks are different. The THREAT is Particle and
The Heat is Mica. For those who have both
what is the difference you see? I have the red
heat and is one of my favorite balls.

Please give me your insights?

Would a pin under the ring finger with the CG kick out
and weight whole roll well? I have a 4 x 4 on my heat.

Maybe i'll drill mine different if i get one so
my heat won't be so similar.

Post by: The great one on April 29, 2003, 10:39:11 PM: Mine just DIED!! Have had it since it came out and has always been great for me, is now dead for some reason. Always clean it, and just resurfaced it, don't think i've had it long enough for it to be oil logged, but i will try bleeding it to see if it gets it pop back. Have/have had 6 red heats, loved them all and never had any of them die.

Post by: charlest on April 30, 2003, 05:37:10 AM: Particle or no particle, the Threat is so highly polished that it skids like there's no tomorrow; it does not seem anywhere close to the overall evenness of the original Heat. If you want a true replacement for the Heat, try the Dyno-Thane Thing; the same guy designed both.

The Threat seems more just like another skid/flip pearl.

Although i guess even a stack leveraged Heat would get good length on some oil these days. Maybe the Threat should have been the Ko punch core in the Holoflex/Pegaxis pro cover instead of the Special.

I think we bowlers would have liked the Heat replacement to act with respect to today's other balls and lane condition the way the original Heat did with respect to its comptemporary balls that the lane consitions of 1997 and 1998.

We do not want an exact Heat, we want a relative Heat.

I loved the reaction of my Heat2 pearl, LOVED it. But it died within 100 games and no variation of surface adjustment and/or re-surfacing could restore it. That's the 2nd time I was really peeved about a ball dying too soon. I could have bought another, but why, when I knew it would die soon. FOr the same reason I saw no reason to even try either Cuda/2000 or a Ricochet.

The Assasin was a very strong ball, polish or no polish. I think it is/was stronger than the other two.

I drilled my Heat2 pearl to flip, used it on medium-dry (or medium-light oil) and while it turned over beautifully, it hardly ever flipped. Strong or very strong arc, but I'd always call it an arc (until it died, then I'd call it somehtign else!). The Threat definitely flips; it might be the effect of the particles. They tend to get slightl ymore reaction out of a ball than plain resin, especially when polished like it is.
