Arsenal Artillery - Some questions
« on: December 06, 2006, 10:57:41 PM »
Hi there, my first topic post in the Track forum.

My inquiry: I am generally looking for a medium performance ball (no manufacturer fixed), a solid reactive for medium conditions and late games on medium to oily shots with a track, to replace my aging Vicious Attack (at 1.500 grit sanded, pin above ring about 4 1/2" from PAP, CG stacked, details about me in my profile).

One of the few balls that have come to my attention is the Arsenal Artillery which could fill the "hole" in my arsenal. I'd like to stick basically to my stacked layout, since it works very well for my style.

Since I never used Track before and have no benchmark, I have two very basic questions, maybe someone who uses/used the ball can help:
1) What is its OOB finish? I am a bit confused since some polish is mentioned in the description, although the balls I have seen so far appear to be matte?
2) How adaptable is the Goo LS coverstock to changes? The ball has a very low RG and I might have to fine-tune it since I fear it might bleed energy quickly?

Any input on this or general comments about the ball are welcome.

Thank you in advance

Not 100% sure but I think the OOB is 2000 with some factory polish.

Goo LS is a very good cover very tunable, I'm not sure why it hasn't done better.

For the ball your looking to replace I think you'll see about 5 more boards of total reaction.

IMO this ball would of sold more if it wasn't ugly...I also heard it's very similar to a Rev Master that Track made a while ago, which was an awsome ball!!

Good luck.

Thank you very much, Frank. Yes, the AA IS butt-ugly, but it has charm in a certain way. At least, it is no style drawback to the Vicious Attck which also does not really win any beauty competition

Any others to chime in, please?

dizzy,

I have one sitting here undrilled.
I was trying to sell it on ebay, for $90.00.
Didn't move, so i decided to keep it and drill it for myself.
I think the Artillery fell through the cracks with all of Track's new assymetical releases.

I'm interested, also, in any input about the ball.
I had a Delta 1, which I believe was Goo coverstock also.

I have the Arsenal Aggressive, which is a keeper...Great ball.

On Edit: Ball isn't a bad looking ball in person.

I have an Arsenal Artillery and love it. Mine is stacked with the pin above the bridge but is not a skid/snap reaction. It reads the midlane very well and drive through the pins...this is the hardest hitting ball I've ever thrown. I don't think you will have a problem losing energy as the ball goes down the lane. Definitely pick one up, you won't regret it.

Arcing reaction sounds VERY good to me. I have also an eye on a Brunswick solid PK18 ball, but I do not like the BVP's bell core. An older SmashR would also be a candidate - I found one in my pro shop, but it did not have the right weight.

I recently got a SR300 of which I thought it would do the job, but a) it proved to be a pearl and b) the GB10.7 coverstock is utterly aggressive, a very snappy ball that simply is not what I an looking for: a "conservative" solid reactive, arcing reaction.

Then I saw the AA at my pro shop, and it intrigues me... Your comments sound promising! Thank you so far.

I was told that this ball has the same core as the Rev Master that I was using a few balls ago in fact I just took the Rev out to replace it with a Arsenal Aggressive that I am having problem controlling too much back end, I might have figured out a line to use with it last night in the last game, way outside not my preffered line but I will try it for a while.

Well mine didnt come to polished, and car layed it out to not be a snap ball for me. Yet this thing revs alot on the heads yet still holds alot for the back. The AA is awsome, yet I dont think oob it is a good heavy oil ball or able at all to handle light. I know in my hands I couldnt handle the light oil, it is just way to strong. Yet oob it could handle a mid conditon really well. The goo ls cover is very easy and handles cover changes well. The low rg will make it rev up fast but dont let that give you the idea that it will roll earl. This thing will pop on the backend.

I'm starting to get the hang of my Artillery, and I'm finding out that I cant go down and in with it. It works best when I swing it out. When I went down and in, it was very over under. Over the last couple of sessions, I'm averaging 226 with it, but that's only the 1st two games of each session. The third game it was to be put in the bag.

Here is the drilling:

The Artillery is 1000 grit then a coat of compound (clean n sheen). Most of the ones I have seen appear to have a light gloss to them, though I have seen some that seem to have more of a shine than others. It is the RevMaster Core.

The GooLS is very user friendly. It takes very well to coverstock adjustments. You are correct that the Artillery will roll pretty quick, but it is amazing in the way that it saves energy for the backend.

As many have already mentioned...this ball fell through the cracks. It is simply amazing, and unfortunately for many they passed on picking it up.
