Phenom sanded....
« on: September 26, 2003, 02:48:44 PM »
To combat heavier oil conditions are you guys keeping your Phenom in box or sanding it down? The in box condition seems to skid a little bit longer than I would like...What would be the best grit to sand it down to without having it burn out too quickly? Also, What is the in box grit?

Thanks,
Mike

Box grit on the Phenom is 1500 smooth.

Just tonight I wanted to see what this ball would do sanded, so I wet sanded it 800 grit. I moved nicely. I have 2 of these and the one I sanded is the one I have set up for more length. It hit harder sanded than it did in box. Previously I have stated that the Mutant hit harder, but sanded the Phenom hits harder......with more messengers which I didn't think was possible.

Excaliber....how well did it hold up at 800 grit? Any sign of burnout? I bolwed on some super flooded lanes today so I brought it down to 600....let me tell you that I was shocked at what I saw...this ball moves more than any ball I've ever owned on oil..My ball was the only ball that was moving..I used to have a Super Carbide Bomb but sold it after it did nothing for me on floods...the Phenom put that ball to shame...600 was way to strong so I want to try 800.

I saw no sign of burnout. It finished strong still and did not lose any energy. I would have to imagine at 600 this ball would be unbelieveable.

What a coincedence....I took my Phenom down to 600 with a green scotch brite and added some Doc's Elixir to it. Well, the new surface reads the midlane much better, the Elixir allows it to retain good length with no burnup and as Excaliber said, this ball seemed to gain more power at the pins after taking the surface down.

I have actually tried it on two different patterns. My monday league puts down a typical house shot on the med. side, stripped backends. Oiled to about 28' buffed out to 40'. The ball is very aggressive on this pattern. Thursday night is the same length of the oil but they put down more oil, its more of a med/hvy pattern and again this ball is very aggressive when it hits the backend. I play a swing shot on both patterns. Monday is standing on 30 hitting 20 at the arrows out to 5 and the ball flips and roars back to the pocket. On thursday night, I stand on 25, hit 15 at the arrows out to 8 and back. Take the surface down, you wont be disappointed!!

komike - What Rock77 stated may be what you are looking for.  For the heavier oil condition taking the coverstock to 600-800 wetsand and then hitting it with the Elixir may be what you are looking for.  I have seen you bowl and with your rev rate and speed you will probably get better mid lane read without the burnout.

800 grit is a perfect fit to heavy oil...

i used my phenom(sanded 800) in my sports shot league...40ft of oil
i thought that i was worried about a burn out after a few games...but my ball kept on striking and making the move i wanted it to make..

600 would be great, but i dont need that much surface
