Could the 5.0 be my benchmark ball?
« on: June 29, 2005, 09:05:58 AM »
In my never ending posts to determine if I should buy the 5.0 or not...I am curious as to how this would work in terms of being a benchmark ball for me. Let's hear it gurus.

It's very possible that the 5.o could be your benchmark ball.

Gurus? sorry, that let sme out. Forget what I said.

"Benchmark" is different for everyone, what could be your benchmark ball could be someone else's biggest hooking ball or ball with the sharpest breakpoint.  The only way to find out is to drill it up, get out there and throw it.

Well put DP3.

Alot of Track guys like the Slash as their benchmark ball. Mine isnt that for me. It is a bit too aggressive on the backend to be my benchmark ball. For me, my benchmark ball is my Mutant Mania. Nice and controlled, reads the lanes well.

TJFreaky,

I think the 5.0 with the proper layout could be a benchmark ball. I still plan on drilling a couple more before the fall season hits. With the OOB surface it is a little hard moving in the backend for me to use as a benchmark ball, I think if you put a smooth surface on it so you can get a true read in midlane then it would be a good benchmark ball. BASICALLY.....drill it properly and it could fit the bill.

Hey TJ,

Do you like swinging or covering some boards?  If you do, then OOB this can be your benchmark.  If not, then I'd have to echo my tag team partner (Ex) here about altering the cover to get that smoother reaction because it is pretty strong on the backend.  Overall, yes it is more of a med/med cond ball for the avg tweener.  I can't use it on heavy stuff....

What I'm basically looking for is something that can cover boards on a medium pattern that is on the heavier side when my GP2 gets to be too much, but gives me the versatility to read the lanes with as well. I'm really only looking to put together a 3 ball arsenal, as I think I can cover most conditions with that. Perhaps the Slash might be a better fit then? This is what the arsenal is looking like so far.

Heavy: GP2
Med/Heavy/Benchmark: ???
Medium/Light:Hexplosion

Exactly what everyone else has said. Your benchmark needs to fit your game, and yes, the 5.0 could be a benchmark ball with the correct surface prep and drill for your game.

TJfreaky,

With the 2 that you have listed already I think the Slash will fit best there. If you were go with the 5.0 I think it would creat too much seperation between it and the hexplosion.
