Power Machine
« on: December 19, 2006, 02:03:36 AM »
Well, I ordered a Power Machine from my local pro shop last night.

I currently throw a 15# Freak-Out and a 15# Arsenal Aggressive Particle.

I've had the Freak-Out for 2 1/2 years now and it still rolls fine.  I got the Arsenal this time last year and it just doesn't do ANYTHING anymore.  It doesn't hook at all.

To tell yall a little about my form, I tend to throw the ball hard, usually with a ball speed of around 20MPH.  People say they don't see how I don't throw my shoulder out, lol.  I also don't quite get to the final step of my approach first before releasing the ball.  At least that's what my dad and my teammates tell me.  I've tried all I can to fix that and am still working on it.

Anyway, I was looking at a Mean Machine and was going to order it since I want a ball that will hook with a high ball speed since I don't hook the ball much as it is because of it.  My pro shop guy suggested the Power Machine (same price) saying it had a little more bite and would hook later in the backend which would give me the angle of attack I want.

Comparing the Power Machine to the Arsenal Aggressive Particle and the Freak Out, what differences will I notice?

ya i'd suggest the power machine too but i don't have either but i've seen my boss use it and other people use them, with the polished surface of the power machine it will go longer but it will really bite at the end and just take out the pins.  the mean machine from what i've seen is it rolls then hooks and its meant for heavy oil, i'd wait to see how the mean machine reacts the way you throw it but if it isn't what you're lookin for give power machine a try

That's what my pro shop guy ordered for me.

I would just like to hook the ball good for once.

As it stands now, I really have to throw my Arsenal slow in order for it to do anything.  Our house league shot is usually medium-heavy oil in the middle, drier on the outsides.

Hey Neutron,

How is your Aggressive drilled?  The ball surface is peak particle which is a pretty hard surface, hence the good length we still get from this ball.

The Power Machine is similar to resins of the old days, very good skid in any decent oil and very strong off the dry boards.  Based on the description of your shot, so long as you stay in the drier area with the Power (at your speed to rev ratio), the Power will look more like the Freakout but stronger.  If you get us your technical info, we can help with a layout.  Presently I'd have to say not to place the mass bias too far away from your pap because your estimated speed of 20mph is pretty fast (unless you have the revs to match).  Let us know how we can help, thanks.

I am in LOVE with this ball!!

Going from 15 to 16lbs did take some adjusting too (forcing me to wear my wrist strap).  It took me an entire practice game to get adjusted to this ball.  I have two flaws in my delivery:  One is I don't quite get to the final step of the delivery before releasing the ball.  Two is I somehow release the ball coming over the top than from the handshake method.  Because of my release the ball actually spins about 20 feet down the lane before turning.

I did notice that at about 35 feet down the lane (at least on our local house shot in league) it hits it's breaking point.  It starts turning towards the head pin at that point.  I love that!!

The pro shop guy drilled it to where the pin is to the right of my ring finger hole (right handed).  He said it would give it maximum flare, and boy did it!

I average 184 right now.  I shot 219-176-213.  The 176 was because my erratic release came back and I had to adjust it which worked in the 3rd game.
