Robo and Machine first impressions
« on: March 25, 2006, 05:07:28 AM »
Condition:
Left over shot from our Friday morning Seniors league. The lanes were fresh inside but the track area was sloppy from all 8 player playing that area. All were using weaker balls or plastic pretty much pointing it at the pocket definately no crankers burning up the shot. When fresh the shot is 70ish units 8-8 @ 10' tapering down from there. AMF HPL
Both are drilled 3.75 x 4.75 (pin x MB) with the pin up 2.5" and a balance hole on VAL 1" below PAP bringing the ball back to 1/2oz positive 1" hole roughly 2" deep.

Machine:
Played multiple lines with it.
Up the twig @ about 17 MPH keeping my hand as open as I can as to not even touch it with my fingers ball was smooth as can be. Definately not my prefered style but nice to know it is there if need be.
Proceeded to start moving left changing my speed and rotation angle to find out how deep I could get with it. I hit the wall standing 35 setting down on 25-26 and targeting a break point of 6-8 @ around 45-48'. At that point I was around 15MPH staying behind the ball until just before release and hitting up and around the ball with as much power as I can and still be in control. I felt that I had more room for error at this line than any other miss a little right and the ball would start up a bit sooner but not overreact miss a little left and it would go a touch longer but make a stronger move and still get to the pocket.
Standing on 30 setting down on 20-21 and targeting 10-12 around 45-48 I played this line cause the the path was through the highest concentration of carrydown and wanted to see how it responded, I could see the ball getting ready to move and then it would squirt for a few more feet so it was a bit inconsistent but playable.
In summary I find the ball to be very versatile and perceptive to speed and release changes with reactions varying from smooth to strong almost a flip depending on speed, rev and rotation angle match up.

Robo
Tried the same lines as with the Machine.
Twig forget it unless you have ludicrous speed and very little hand.
Standing 35 setting down 25-26 targeting 6-8 @ around 45-48' ball wouldn't push long enough and would check up when it got to the track area this gave it a bit of a flat hit due to using up too much energy. Tried a bit more speed to get it to push through the track area and it did but the recovery just wasn't there due to too much energy being used up getting to the break point.
Standing 30 setting down 20-21 targeting 10-12 @ around 45-48' this is where the ball looked best. Where the Machine would squirt in the carrydown the Robo just ignored it as it was already in a very strong roll giving it a nice smooth reaction.
In summary I find that the ball is quite rolly for me and definately needs a high volume of oil in the heads and more in the mids than was present on this condition due to the previous league. To say much more would be an injustice to the ball cause it is just too strong for the condition I used it on for me. I think that the ball will be great on a fresh shot and on our summer sport shot which has plenty of oil outside to help it push.

More to come once I have use them on a fresh shot, USBC shot and sport shot.
