Title: The simple solution to Over/Under Conditions...............
Post by: Jesse James on October 08, 2018, 11:25:05 PM
A particle ball!!  Revisit my old Track Enforcer!!!

Had been having a helluva time with consistency to the pocket area, and extreme over/ under conditions to start league play. I had literally dropped in average from a 201 to a 167 in one league because I could not carry and could not put back-to-back strikes together to save my life!

So I dug into my library and pulled this old gem out and woooohooo!! Instant success! Instant consistency! All of a sudden my regular 620-650 sets re-appeared!!

I'm not sure whether it's the latest oils being laid down or what, but all my newer equipment just kept giving me squirrly results before I pulled this out!

It just tracks (pun intended) so well through the pocket area! It is extremely predictable and very consistent whether on heavy oil or medium oil! I have mine polished so I can use it on both. Out of box this ball used to be a heavy oil monster, but it was hell to clean and keep it at box surface.

With this one polished I have a medium oil benchmark ball that gives me a perfect read on the lanes. So glad I still have this!

Are there any newer pieces out still using particle or mica in their covers?

Storm's Nano covers. NRG. Roto has the Idol.

Hammer's carbon fiber infused covers on the Scandals I believe as well.

There are some others I can't think of at the moment

I highly suspect that the DCT solid had a light load in it. You're going to be hard pressed to find something with as heavy of a particle load nowadays.

Also in general I would say buyer beware on used particle balls. Especially the heavy load early balls were known to suffer from quite early permanent ball death.

Also in general I would say buyer beware on used particle balls. Especially the heavy load early balls were known to suffer from quite early permanent ball death.

But, was that ball death due to the lack of knowledge about how to maintain particle covers?  You had to use a softer abrasive than the particles and many did not, so the particles were ground down to the surface of the cover instead of being allowed to protrude above it.  Also bleeding the oil out was not generally known.
