Threat Life Span?
« on: July 21, 2003, 08:12:19 AM »
So, my beloved Threat, which now has somewhere around 80 game on it, is starting to lose its "snap", especially over the last 3 or 4 weeks, and I'm wondering if this is what I always hear happens to particle balls, eventually (TEC death?).

This summer, my house is set up dry from 0-5, 28 feet light oil between 5 and 10, and heavy oil to 35 feet in the middle.  The backend are buffed out every morning (so they say).  I tend to throw above average speed, slightly above average revs, and fairly high axis tilt.  Normally, I would swing the ball out from 18 to 5 or so, and then back.  Tonight, I had to swing it from 9 to around 5, and hope it came back.

The breakpoint on my Threat is a bit later than I would expect (and am used to), and the turn is definitely not as strong.  Does this sound like the ball has sen its day?  What could I try to get some of the snap back in the ball?  Or is it just time to stick it in the garage?

Thanks.

Rob

Rob,
If you want to throw it into the garage, I will take it off of your hands.

Seriously.....what is probably happening with the ball is that it is tracking up a bit, and your track area is losing some of its shine. Take to your local pro shop and have them polish it back to NIB surface grit.

If that does not work, resurface it, and take it back to box surface.

Have you treated the coverstock to a shot of Elixir?

You may also be experiencing oil saturation that ultimately kills the coverstock.

Rob, my the same thing happend to my threat. I tried to bleed it, but no oil came out, gave it a mild resurface, only taking it down to 400. Didn't do much, will take it down to 220, and report back. I've been trying to sell it, but seems interst was lost in it.
