blue heat
« on: March 14, 2006, 01:18:35 PM »
i purchased a blue heat about 2 months ago.  i was throwing an old track heat with pretty good results but i wanted something a little more aggressive.  the blue heat was just what i was looking for, but after about 15 games it wont hook at all.  last night guys with less hand than me were killing the pocket while i felt like i was throwing a bean bag at the pins.  finally at the end of the last game i pulled out my old heat, threw it on the same line and it made a much harder turn than the blue heat.  it made the blue look like a spare ball.  i was wondering if anyone else had this kind of reaction and if so what causes it?

WOW2 is a proven cover.  I got many hundreds of games out of my Mutant, it's also a light-load WOW2 ball.  Sounds more like it's burning up than dying.

tickle it,

I agree that is sounds alot like burning up....if the Heat was turning the corner and the Blue Heat wouldn't that is more than likely the situation.

Did you leave the Blue Heat with its out of box finish or did you alter it? If you did not alter the surface AND it is not burning up the Blue Heat may just need a very good cleaning.

Try this:

You will need Track's Clean n Dull or Clean n Tacky and a grey scotchbrite pad. Apply the cleaner you choose directly onto the scotchbrite pad and wipe it on half of the ball APPLY VERY LITTLE PRESSURE in small circular motions. Allow the Clean n Dull or Clean n Tacky to sit on the ball for roughly 20 seconds then wipe it off with a dry towel. Repeat this on the other side of the ball.

If the ball still looks more shiney than it was out of box then you may need to clean it again only applying slightly more pressure.

When you are finished use a damp cloth to wipe away any residue that may remain.

Give that a try and let us know how it works out.

GOODLUCK,
-Carl

I agree with Carl.
No ball dies in 15 games. The center screwed with the oil machine and put out less oil. You need to be aware of ball reactions to change when appropriate.

thanks to everyone for the replies.
i didnt alter the coverstock left it oob condition
it could be burning up im not sure exactly what it will look like when it does.  i tried moving more toward the middle of the lane and the ball appeared to be sliding away, i left a bunch of 2-8-10s.  there seemed to be a fair amount of oil coming back on my ball track.
ihave heard alot about people soaking balls in hot water to draw the oil out im not sure how this will work or how much oil i could have soaked up in only 24 games or so.
if it is burning up should i try polishing it a bit?  thanks

if it is burning up I would keep it as it is because the HEat will work when the Blue Heat is burning up

As far as the hot water method.........do the cleaning technique I spoke of, it works better. ALTHOUGH the hot water works...deep cleaning with Clean n Dull or Clean n Tacky is the best I have found to bring a ball back

Tickle It,

I'm a witness to the what I would like to call "THE CARL TECHNIQUE"...I did this with my oil soaked Robo Rule...and booyah!!! The Robo came back to life and performs like it did when I first purchased it! My actual testimonial:

"At first I was a skeptic, but it has brought my ball back to life with its plentiful hook! Thanks Carl!" ::Gives the BIG THUMBS UP::

LOL! Okay so maybe that was a little corny, but the point is, this technique works wonders..let us know what you go with and what happens, God Bless you and have a great week!

i wont be able to get any clean n dull until next week so i tried the hot water method method 3 or 4 times.  i wont get to try it until this weekend but the ball did feel alot tackier than it did before i soaked it.

one last question
when a ball is said to be "burning up" is that the same as rolling out?  if not what does the reaction look like when it burns up?  i've seen balls hook early then flatten out at the pocket, mine didnt seem to be doing this.

tickle it,

that is what we call burning up

It is difficult to explain, but I will try:
Usually you will see the ball rolling off of your hand.....and generally you will see the ball start too hook when it hits friction then straighten out almost into an end over end roll.
