Pick my arsenal
« on: April 19, 2006, 11:03:30 PM »
Hello Tracksters,

I am bowling the state tournament this weekend and am totally confused as to what balls to bring with me. I am trying to bring no more than 7 balls, including my spare ball. So, that leaves 6 balls at my disposal. Here is what I am thinking about bringing:

Track Phenom Unleashed 2 - Heavy
Track Rule Delta 1 - Med/Hvy
Track Xception 5.0 or Slash - Med
Track Freak-a-zoid - Med
Track Xception or Red Slash - Med/Light
Track Desert Heat - Dry

There are a couple of slots that I am unsure of what to bring. Take a look at my profile and see what I have to use then try to give me the best 6 ball arsenal I can have. The biggest thing is that nobody knows what the lane conditions will be like. I am bowling first squad on Saturday so there will be some oil. But, I am also bowling the late squad for team event as well, so the lanes could be drier if they don't re oil. Let me know what you guys think.

Thank you and God Bless!
Ryan

Ryan,
7 balls?  You are going to tire yourself out just bringing them in from the parking lot!  lol.  In all seriousness though, I think you'd really only need a ball for dry, the ball you are most comfortable with for medium, and a heavy oil ball, just in case you draw a heavy first shift pattern.  In all the times I have ever bowled states, I have never seen it flooded, and I really don't see them putting out an extremely difficult shot either.  Just trying to make things easier on you.  Just my 2 cents....hope this helps.

Track Phenom Unleashed 2 - Heavy
Track Rule Delta 1 - Med/Hvy
Track Slash - Med
Track Freak-a-zoid - Med
Track Xception - Med/Light
Track Desert Heat - Dry

That's what I would take if I was in your position.  I'd rather take 7 balls and not need a couple.  Then take a couple of balls and and end up leaving one at home that you really needed

The question isn't why do I throw all Track, it's why don't you.

Arsenal includes:
Rule GP2, Rule Delta 1, Xception, Heat Blast, Heat,  Desert Heat

Hey Ryan,

Even though I got a ton of equipment lying around in the house, these are the six I carry with me to league. I feel confident in bringing all these with me because I feel they cover all spectrums that I will encounter on a regular league night and the conditions may vary.

Robo Rule -- Always pull this one out of the bag first to see what its look is like in practice.
Machine -- If the Robo is jumping way too many boards, then I go to the Machine.
Arsenal Artillery -- When the Machine doesn't have enough backend and is finishing weak into the pocket, here comes the Artillery as a archy substitute.
Solution Power Plus EX -- When the Artillery is snapping wayyyy too much, I go to this one for controllable yet powerful backend snap.
Heat Blast -- When the backends are flying, I can go to the Blast for a smooth reaction and it doesn't overjump boards.
Desert Heat -- Everybody that is a follower of Track should have this one in the arsenal incase they encounter a really weird THS or if the lanes are completely fried or short oil patterns!

Hope this helps you some buddy and gives you an idea of what to pick dude! God Bless You and have a great week!

Nate, you could be right. I have never seen a flood at states either. Usually med/hvy at best. Maybe I will cut it down to 5 balls. I will bring the Phenom Unleashed 2, Freak-a-zoid and Desert Heat. Then try to fit two balls in between those. Maybe the Xception 5.0 or Mutant Mania and my Red Slash. I dunno. I can't even think about it right now. I just get more confused. LOL.

Michael,

Thanks for the input. I am trying to go with the balls that I feel most comfortable throwning and the ones that will give me separation. I am definitely bringing the FAZ and Desert Heat. But I am not sure how aggressive of a ball I will need for heavier stuff. Maybe the Rule Delta 1 would be enough, but I'd like to have a particle handy in case it isnt. So maybe I go with my GP2 or PU2? Do I bring the Xception 5.0 or Mutant Mania? Xception, Heat or Red Slash? Arghhhh, the confusion!!

Thanks anyway and God Bless!

Ryan,

Sit back and take a deep breath! LOL! This is the downside of having a "bowling ball addiction" like myself! LOL! You get to the point where you have everything and then when it comes to league or a tournament...you get totally confused! It is okay however! Just pick what you are comfortable with...you've already made a choice in the FAZ and Desert Heat...if I were you I would go with this, based on what you have!

PU2 -- Try this one out first to see what the lanes give you.
X 5.0 -- If the PU2 is way too strong, try this one
X-Ception -- If the 5.0 isn't enough as far as backend, this one will surely come to your rescue.
FAZ -- I'm assuming this ball has incredible snap on the backend for you. So its a good step down from the original X!
Slash -- Since everyone in this forum supports the Slash, you'd be messed up for not bringing this one with you! LOL!
Red Slash -- You need something that has a smooth type reaction. I have heard from some that is what this ball does. If it snaps harder than the FAZ, I'd leave it at home.
Desert Heat -- Dry, nuff said!

If you desire to bring all of 'em with you, that is how I feel staging them based on oil conditions. However, if you are looking for to just bring five I would go with this:

PU2, X 5.0, X-Ception, Slash, Desert Heat

Hope this helps! God Bless You buddy and good luck!

You are going to despise my answer!!!!!

Take them all.

Why?

If you don't...the moment you don't match up to what you are seeing, the first thing in your head is not going to be trying to fix your issue, its going to be, darn, I can't believe I didn't bring that ball, and by then, you are behind even further....

Trust me, I have been there before....thus why I am renting a U-Haul for this weekend to go bowl Inter City....

Hey Michael,

There are a couple of factors that I just realized. First, it is a wood house so the lanes will dry up quicker than synthetics. Second, as stated by zonepro, there has never been a flood at the state tourney so I doubt they would start now.

With that said, my thoughts on equipment choices may change a bit. I am thinking that I should lean more towards bringing stuff to cover med to lighter conditions as the day progresses. If there is a bit of oil out there for first shift I am pretty sure I could get by with the Rule Delta 1. With that said, here is what I am thinking.

Rule Delta 1 - Just in case they are a bit oily.
Mutant Mania - This ball is simply amazing!
Freakazoid - This is my control piece for med conditions.
Red Slash - Reacts similar to my Xception, but a bit longer.
Desert Heat - Just in case they are toast!

I think that ought to cover everything. If I get in a pinch and don't have the proper ball, I will need to learn to adjust better. That's all.

Thanks for your input and God Bless.

Ryan...not many guys think like you and would rather work with the ball in your hands then change to something in your bag....thats a good quality to have!

SteveAustin....

Yep, and thats all I got to say about that!

I agree with Clint take them all. I`m headed to a weekend team doubles and singles tourney that will cover the three days and you never know when that ball at home may bail you out. I take my main 6-8 into the center and leave my just in case balls in the vehicle. Just last month my Crunchtime was in my just in case bag in the car and after bowling ok on Saturday I  pulled it out and shot 737 in a doubles event and ok for the other 6 games that day. If the ball had not made the trip the weekend would have been a bust. So i think it is important to have your set of go to arsenal balls and then those few gap or just in case balls that may be there to bail you out. when necessary.

Slick, I like your idea of leaving a few extras in the car. I just may do that. At least that way, I have something to go to if I run into an unexpected condition.
