Trash/X-Factor
« on: July 18, 2003, 07:06:49 PM »
Please see my profile.
I'm going to add a Trash to my arsenal, for the medium
oiled lanes. Presently, I use an X-factor, excellent
ball, but a bit hard to control with my not-allways-perfect
release. I think that the Trash could be an alternative for
medium conditions and should be more forgiving. A few less
boards covered (not too many!)isn't a problem.
What do you think? My X-factor is drilled with the pin 4 inches from
my PAP, beside and above the ring finger (righthanded) and MB shifted
3 inches to the right of the thumb hole. Large balance hole.
What drilling would be the best in order to have maximum but controlled hook with this ball?
The same as my X-factor? Last parameter, I would like to keep both balls in the factory finish.
Thank you for reading this (maybe relatively long) post
and, I hope, for replies.

I think you will be suprised because the Thrash can cover as many if not more boards than the X Factor.

One of my teammates has each with very similiar drillings and he has to stand in about the same place, but on given shots he has to stand deeper with the Trash, but never stands deeper with the X Factor. The Thrash is more controllable, whereas the X Factor is more flippy on the backend. They both offer tremendous hitting power.

As for layout, I do not have a X Factor to compare my Thrash with. I have my Thrash drilled 4x5. I get good lenth and a nice arcing backend. This is the first ball out of my bag. Very consistent, and controllable.

Good news!!
EXCALIBER, if this ball is so strong, do you think
it could overlaps my inferno drilled the same way
as my X-factor? In other words: Inferno,X-Factor and
Trash drilled the same way, what reaction would you
expect in same medium conditions?

Well, with the Inferno, another ball I have not thrown, but I have seen many people throw one, including the same guy that has the Thrash and X Factor. His Inferno is drilled a little stronger.

When he throws on medium, which is about all we bowl on in this one house, these are the reactions I have seen out of the 3---
-Thrash is not quite a long and flippy as the other too. More even rolling for a pearl.
-X Factor, goes extremely long and snaps real hard in the backend.
-Inferno, rolls up sooner than the X Factor, but maybe half a foot to a foot and a half later than the Thrash. It is more violent off of the dry than than the Thrash, but not a violent as the X Factor

All three of three of these balls can smack the hell out of the pins. The difference in reaction between them all is the coverstock. The Thrash has the stronger of the 3 in coverstock, whereas it may have the weaker core of them.

Too bad, Track is making the best stuff on the market right now!! People who think that it is trash are really missing out on some great equipment!! I have thrown most of the new stuff and love it all. Some of it is a bit condition specific but all of the balls have such versatility within them that the possibilities are limitless. My new fave ball is my Threat. I will post a review on this bad boy when I get some more games on it.

Rock,

Once again, I agree with you. Track is releasing the best highend stuff out right now, and the midrange is close to if not on top as well.
Anyone calling it trash----is just uneducated, and probably using Storm equipment because their friend does too.

Geesh, all you guys keep talking so highly of the Thrash, I am finding it very difficult to wait for the Triple Threat so I can pick one of the two for my winter arsenal. They both cover the same conditions and would fill the void in my arsenal. The thing I dont understand is this, I emailed Track and here is what they said about the two:

"Triple Treat is a Threat with a particle cover it is very smooth The Thrash has a little more kick down the lane with quite a bit more angle just depends if you like smooth or angle both would do the trick your other choices are very good" - Chuck Gardner

Sounds to me like the Triple should be the smoother of the two, but if you guys are saying the Thrash fits this bill, I dont see how the ball could be angular at all. What do you guys think??

Rock,

I have said before I searched Track's drill sheet, found the layout with the reaction I wanted and that is what I got. So maybe, as opposed to other balls it is more layout specific, than it is cover specific.

I imagine with the change of coverstock that the triple threat will be stronger. If that is the case, and the Thrash has a stronger core than the Threat, maybe they will end up being very close. Having not thrown a Triple Threat, I cannot give my opinion on that ball. The Thrash side by side with the Threat (my friend and I play very similiar lines and have about the same revs, he has the Threat as well) is not as skid flippy, and it definately is more controllable. I get this same notion reading what Track sent you about the Triple Threat.

More people will probably be turned on to the Triple Threat because the core is the same as the Threat, where the Thrash's core is different.
