TRACK PHENOM
« on: December 10, 2004, 02:02:34 AM »
I am trying to get a TRACK PHENOM bowling ball and a quick way to get one is from a fellow at my bowling alley who will sell me a used one VERY CHEAP. It supposedly has been used for only 20 games (i.e. it is just about brand new).
I will need to get it plugged and re-drilled. Can anyone tell me how I should tell the driller to drill the ball? I do not have much knowledge on what to tell the drill guy to do.
I throw medium REV's
I am left handed
I thrown the ball 15-16 m.p.h.

My goal is to get something that will cut through the heavy oil that I see once in a while after the scores become "too high" at my local establishment. Most of the time when the oil is not as heavy, I can get by with my current equipment.
Thanks a bunch

Well, here is a little secret that I recently learned when drilling mass bias balls for lefties. In order to achieve a certain reaction based on a drill sheet, you actually need to swap the pin and mb with each other. So for a rightie, one would put the pin below and a bit right of ring finger with the mb on VAL for early forward roll in heavy oil. For a lefty, put the mb under and slightly left of ring and put the pin on your VAL(vertical axis line). If you dont know what your VAL measurement is, have your driller measure your positive axis point. Where that lands, draw a line vertically and that is your VAL. Good Luck.

Rock,

Not sure I follow you... wouldn't it just be a mirror of the righty drill? i.e. pin under ring and MB on VAL?  What you explained was taking a 4 x 2.5 mb (for example)
and turning it into a 2.5 x 4 MB ball...not sure it's the same..it'll certainly be a different reaction shape....unless I'm missing something?????

Hey Vern,

After plugging, place your pin approx 3-4 inches from pap (1 to 1.5 above midline, if possible) and keep the mass bias past your val as well.  You will need to find your positive axis point to do this correctly, please check with your local pro shop to help you do this.  If you want it for heavy oil, then go ahead and tell your driller to sand it down to 600 as well.  This will help the ball create more friction for you in the soup...hope this helps.
