Xception: specs question

On Ebay, I have two choices for an Xception:

Both have 4-5" pins, one has 2.5 top weight, the other has 1.5 top weight.
Is there a big difference between these two? Also, for a skid flip reaction on a drier condition, what is the best drilling?

As for differences, not really. The pin lengths are the same, and the top weight doesn't have a major effect. I think a lower top weight means the ball will roll a little earlier but still, coverstock and ball layout will effect things much more. As drillings go, I'll let someone with a little bit more knowledge help you on that one.

Buck,

Some may disagree with this, but I would go with the lower topweight ball. With the pin being so long the CG could be kicked anywhere in order to get the MB in the position it is going to need to be in for the skid/flip reaction.

As for the layout bud, to get the ball set for a skid flip reaction placing the pin 4 1/2 - 4 3/4 from your PAP, keep the pin above your fingers, this helps create length. Place the MB 5 inches from your PAP, it will end up in an area near your thumb hole. This is the MB placement that is going to create the most "flip" off of the breakpoint.

As Ex said, the lower top would give you a little more flex in drilling.  Higher top means the ball will go a little further down the lane...nothing you can't adjust anymore with surface or drilling.
