Drilling Advise On A Bonanza GP2, Please
« on: March 17, 2005, 02:34:32 PM »
I picked up a Bonanza GP2, top wt 4 oz, pin 4-3/4.  My PAP is 4-3/8 right and 5/8 up.  RH, slow ball speed, low revs.

What would some drilling options be for this and the expected reactions?

To give an idea of what I am seeing with a Track ball, I have a Thrash  drilled 2-5/8 x 3-3/8 and it gets good length with a mellow arcing finish and great carry if I can hit the pocket.

First off, if the MB is not marked I would find a pro shop near you that has a determinator. If you drill it up and do not know where the MB is then the reaction you are going to get is going to be a crapshoot.

Ex is definitely correct on the mb statement but what did I miss?  I don't see anywhere where you say the mb logo was missing....was it in a pm to Ex?  Then again, I'm on my second hit of Nyquil so my eyes are getting fuzzy...

Tenpinspro,

90% of the time they do not mark the MBs on the bonanzas.

Proshop in town doesnt have a determinator.  One in Tucson that I called has one but only for their use when you buy a ball from them.  They did say that I could find the mass bias by going 6-3/4 inches from the pin thru the CG.

So now that I know the location of the mass bias, what next?

I don't think that's exactly perfect, especially considering the ball is a Bonanza.  I have first quality balls and the CG isn't exactly centre when drawing a line from the pin to the mass bias.

yeah the MBs can be off a tad, ive got a xfactor that the cg is off the line from the rad to pin a good inch+ but it collects dust so i dont care about it.

If you are willing to pay them they will spin it for you.

Going from pin through CG is not accurate for finding these MBs.

Hey MI 2,

It really isn't safe to just "assume" that the mass bias is 6 3/4 away thru pin and cg.  That's why the "better" manufacturer's advertise that their balls are pre-spun from factory to locate their mb's.

Thanks for the replies.

I did ask the proshop in Tucson how much they wanted to spin a ball for me but they did not answer with a price.  That is when they told me to go 6-3/4 from the pin.

The state tournament will be held in Tucson in June so I can always try to bring it up and look for a proshop then.
