You pick it (part 2)
« on: February 05, 2005, 03:07:57 PM »
OK, if you have read my mini review of the GP2 you know that I currently have 3 of them. This ball is awesome-----so I bought another one.

Here are the current layouts on the 3 I have:

1- Pin above ring finger....MB right against the right side of the thumb. This ball is useable on league patterns, I have adjusted the surface a bit (2000 grit sand).

2- Pin below the bridge, MB close to VAL. The surface is currently at box. This ball will cover just about any heavy league pattern I will see....and it does awesome when carrydown takes my line away....it ignores the carrydown.

3- Leverage pin.....MB on VAL. The surface is box. This ball will cover any heavy oil I will see in tournaments, probably too much for any heavy house pattern.

YOUR JOB: Suggest another layout. I already have one in mind (and have discussed this with Rick). I want you to suggest a layout for me, and the reason I should try it. FYI-------I do not want something for dry lanes...this ball is not meant for that and I have that condition covered with other equipment.

Let me know....as I will probably drill it up mid next week.

I have a question, Ex and I hit the BTM last year in Reno where we had a fairly tight reverse with clean backs real late.  Couldn't get past 10 from inside unless you went down and in but then there was no tug or recovery from the right.  I actually got the same reaction as Torgensen did last week on the show but the shot was heavier.  So in your opinion, which of Ex's layouts do you feel would work better on this?  Thanks in advance....

Good to know people here like to bowl in tournaments with a challenging condition.  If you're reading this and have never bowled the BTM, the BTM is a 42 foot flat (gutter-to-gutter uniform oil) pattern of medium (IMO) volume conditioner.  It is a difficult shot, extremely difficult if you're accustomed to bowling on house conditions.

tenpinspro - my teammates and I who have bowled the BTM have only had success with control layouts on low-rg stuff.  The condition itself is going to overemphasize any mistake a bowler makes in the physical game, so we don't need any surprises from the equipment as well.  On the fresh (1st shift) shot, I had the best success with a ball similar to Excaliber's second layout and stuff that was pin-on-pap.  Once a couple of shifts have bowled on the pattern, it's anybody's guess and can really depend on how the shot is developed.  Anytime a shot develops into an inverted-top or even reverse shot, I've found control stuff to be even more of a bonus, and have had some luck with the 315 degree layout (if nothing else, to help minimize release mistakes).  Hope this helps.

OK, so far------I am close to deciding between 3 layouts. I want to try to drill this up tomorrow or Wed, so hurry with your feedback.

Layouts I am thinking about:

1- Pin above the bridge...mb about 3 inches right of the thumb.

2- Pin next to ring finger...mb just left of the thumb. I had this layout on my Havoc and I really liked it.

3- Pin 1 1/2-2 inches from PAP...about finger level, and the MB swung left towards the thumb.

What do you guys/glas think?

Thanks

I have to go with number 2 because it is so close to my favorite drill. All of my balls seem smooth the whole lane.

WELL-----after careful consideration I am going to drill this thing tomorrow (or Friday). I am going to set it up with the pin 2 inches from PAP and swing the MB towards the thumb.

Sure thing. I post a mini review for everything I throw....BUT with different drillings on the same ball I put all of that in my reviews.

I'm watching for vids comparing most (or all) of his Track balls!  That would definitely be great; hopefully he'll have time in the near future.  It would be great to see the Xception, Rule, GP2, and the new Arsenals in action
