Track's ball rating system.
« on: March 15, 2005, 06:36:00 AM »
I've been looking at getting a Rule, for no other reason than I want a new ball and the Rule looks like as good a choice as any. That and a recent resurface and polishing of my Triple Threat has left a hole in my arsenal. Loving the polish on the Threat too much to put it back at stock.

What I'm now wondering is what I'd get out of it. Looking at the length and backend ratings on the Track site, it looks like a Triple Threat (my frame of reference, since this is my only other Track ball atm) with more backend, which isn't a bad thing in my book
So my question is, are my assumptions right, that I'd be looking at a similar length ball but with more backend? Any comparisons would be much appreciated

me:
Speed: 16 mph, (straight ball and measured by qubica, working on getting this up a bit)
revs: medium, lower medium (comparing myself to everyone else at the bowling alley, don't have any numbers though. Enough to swing the lane with most of my balls besides plastic ).
axis rotation: usually above 60 degrees and a good amount of tilt.

Rule would be a good choice for what you are describing. Get one soon, as it will not be in the catalog next year.

Siniak,

The Rule wants to pick up its roll much sooner than the TT. It was meant for more oil, but with that said its backend reaction is similiar to the TT. If you look to replace a TT with the Rule I would expect that you will have to tweak the cover a bit, and also be careful with the layout because the Rule being asymmetrical the MB placement is going to be very important.

Hey Siniak,

I'd think the Rule is a touch strong for replacing the TT.  Maybe look into the Arsenal Angular, it is a nice step up from the TT and offers a very similar reaction as well, good length and strong backend for just a bit more oil.

Well what I'm really looking for is a good step up from my TT so I can cover more conditions (having mediums pretty much covered with the TT and a Throttle-R). Right now my next step up is a diesel particle, but it's so much of a gap that it only sees playtime during tournaments.

Would a polished Rule cover the condition of the suggested Arsenal Angular, thus giving me more flexibility towards heavier conditions if needed? Is the Arsenal Angular strong enough to be a good step up, or is it another shade of medium oil (heavier mediums?) ball?

Siniak,

If you are looking for the step up then the Rule would be a good choice. The Arsenal Angular will move, and it does have more backend than the Rule. It will cover mediums and medium heavy for most bowlers.

Based on this, it really is your choice of a Rule to Arsenal Angular.  Just like Ex states, the Angular is just a little longer and has more backend while the Rule is naturally stronger and should roll a little sooner in comparison to the Angular.  Hope this helps...
