What did you learn from this past fall season?
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:29:42 AM »
Whoo.  Here goes-

I learned to keep my temper in check.
I've learned to become more versatile. I.E. hand positions, angles, speeds, releases, etc.
How to be a more accurate spare shooter
What my equipment does, and why it does it.
I can read the lanes much better.
I make better adjustments.
I've stopped muscling the ball
I've learned to always keep my equipment clean
Altering surfaces helps

And I'm sure there are more things I've learned that I just can't remember at the moment.

My goals are very simple...each new season I want to average 1 pin higher than the previous season...this season I finished with a 219; however, in the important league, which was my Scratch League, I finished at 213...so now, I'll be aiming at 214 or better and go from there...

I have a big pet peeve with cocky people...especially the one's who wanna talk alot of smack...the real annoying thing is, some of these people can do it and actually back it up too...but I feel I didn't let as many things bother me than in my previous two seasons since moving up to adult leagues. My competitive spirit is still there and I'm furfilling a dream working in a pro shop...for me as a bowler, I'm not a fond believer in altering surfaces though...I feel the company put that certain piece out there for a purpose; however, I can see the justification to altering when necessary as I recommend this to certain customers I come in contact with...everybody has a different style and game...

In conclusion, I'm definitely happy with how this season turned out...also winning both the leagues you were full time in helps alot as well!
God Bless You All! Have a great week!

Do not be concerned about how much the ball hooks, but how it carries. The game is scored by how many pins are knocked down, not by how many boards are covered.

Carl- "Yes and it left a thumb hole imprint on the back of his head. HAHAHA."

Scoot- "How didnt he die from it.... o wait it was 14lbs wasn't it?"

Carl- "Yes it was ricks ball."

Scoot- "Well that is how he lived. See it is good to have a 14lb ball sometimes."

...including myself. We had, with my club's team in federal state league, the opportunity to advance to a higher league division - you had to be best of the 6 team division. We were always 2nd overall place. just close behind the leaders. Second to last start they played badly, we had the chance to advance but choked. Last start, we threw it more or less away, too ambitious and tense.

Since then, I have been working very hard on a much more relaxed approach and changed some basic things, e. g. a new thumb pitch (more reverse), using tape and walking with flexed knees to move the body's CG further back at the foul line, improving overall leverage and getting the thumb out of the ball earlier. Great success so far, I think this has improved my average by 10 sticks and made my game much more stable.
Next thing I am working on are spares, esp. cross-lane shots. Guess I'll try to convert them more often with the strike ball, but that's summer's practice job.

Additionally (even though I made gained much experience already last year) it is funny how different the ball arsenal behaves once it becomes warmer and the lanes are dressed with less oil. I really have to change my favorite tourney bag with much milder equipment that I did not use that often in winter time. It is much like getting the motor bike ready for summer season.
