Anyone flown American Airlines to Vegas recently?
« on: May 27, 2009, 01:48:25 PM »
I am leaving tomorrow to bowl Friday and Saturday and was curious if you where still only allowed 1 carry on bag and if they charge for the 1st piece of checked baggage? I am lucky that someone is driving all the bowling equipment for multiple teams there so I don't need to hassle with that.

Any help would be appreciated.

The wife just flew them to Vegas.  1 carry on plus 1 personal item.  $15 for first checked bag, $25 for the 2nd.

So you can carry 1 small bag on for free and the 1st checked bag is $15 each way? That's what I understood when reading the baggage polices on the aa.com website.

I assume AA is the same as the rest....you actually get 2 carry on items. One bag and one "personal item" which is a purse for a female (or some guys) or a briefcase/laptop type bag for guys (or some ladies). Then the first checked bag costs $15, 2nd $25. That's pretty standard right now, except for Southwest/

I flew American to Vegas and although I did not travel with my equipment, I was allowed two carry ons... my smallish-sized suitcase and a duffel bag which held my magazines and portable DVD player.

I think if you're military they'll wave the $15.00 for the first bag, but you have to show your military ID. That's what one of our bowlers said.

Got back Thursday. 15 for the 1st, 25 for the 2nd.
We checked a suitcase and two 3 ball rollers with 1 ball in each(all under 50lbs.)
Total $55 for each way. Bus driver to airport from car rental, said he liked bowlers, but was tired.

I flew them to Vegas. But then again I work for American so if I didn't I would be trading on the company that pays my bills.

Before you go to the Hash House A Go-Go, get your Restaurant.com certificate.  Also, be ready to not finish your meal if you don't have a fridge in your hotel room.  Splitting a meal with your spouse or friend may be the way to go.

Just got back from Vegas and am very tired. It was a quick, but long 2 day trip. I was able to take my 1 small piece of luggage and I small carry on bag with me on the plane and did not have to check anything.

I also stayed at the Stratosphere and was very happy with everything there. They had a GREAT buffet that was cheap and my room was very nice. I upgraded to a suite for $10 more and it was well worth it. The area around the hotel is not that great, bot for me that didn't matter. I really enjoyed my 2 night stay there. The view from the observation tower was amazing, especially at night!!

I bowled like crap but I think the 2 hours of sleep each night and having just 1 too many beers the night before did me in!! LOL..

PS: I also put about $400 back into the slumping Las Vegas economy while I was there!! (da*n slot machines)
