Steven the key is to strategically bowl poorly so you don't make enough to get one.  That plan has worked to perfection for me two years in a row now.

You just have to be smart about it and use your noggin...I mean really...who wants to have the trouble of walking the few blocks to stand in line for bracket money...and then carrying all of that cash around all weekend...and then getting a 1099?

While you morons go stand in line I'll be running up a bar tab...(and then getting you to pay for it...j/k)

Normally, employers (banks for interest, contractors to sub-contractors, mortgage tax statements, etc.) are supposed to have them postmarked by 1/31. Due to 1/31 being a Sunday this year, employers (and others) are supposed to have them mailed and postmarked by 2/1 this year.

If you don't have it by Wednesday I would make a call to get a new copy...could be the employer, could be the postal service. In my office I once received mail that was postmarked seven months prior to the date of delivery!

I am not talking about the W2.  I am talking about the 1099 from USBC.  I have had my W2 from my employer since January 8th.  Get to wait a month while USBC drags their feet and whatever else they can drag to get the 1099.  I may need to give them a call later today if I havent received it yet.

I'm not talking about your W2 either. 1099's (1099-MISC, 1099-INT etc) have the same time constraints that a W2 has. Both W2s and all 1099s needed to be postmarked by 2/1/10 this year. Neither your employer or the USBC was legally required to issue you your W2 or any 1099 until 2/1/10.

The process to assemble the information to prepare 1099's is significantly different and more time consuming than preparing W-2s.  Either a payroll service company or payroll software program is used to prepare the payroll.  1099's are generated after all disbursements for the calendar year compiled.  In addition there are various types of 1099's that must be filed, not just for winnings.  The most efficient way to prepare the 1099's and associated filings with the IRS is prepare everything at one time.

Mine was postmarked 2/1. Two things to remember, 1) They are coming from Arlington this year, so if you lived close to the WI office, it will take longer to get there then in the past. 2) You probably want to double check what address was used for you on the entry form....if they have wrong address then it might take longer to get to you as well, or it might not get there at all.

Except that my 1096's and W-3's aren't due to the IRS until 3/1/10 while the 1099's and W-2's must be postmarked by 2/1/10 for those recipients. You can do them all at the same time but TWOHAND834 should still have his 1099(MISC, I presume) by now.

Yes I agree he should have received the 1099 by now.  It is not appropriate to connect the preparation of W-2's and 1099's.  They are different preparation processes even though they have the same date for mailing to the recipient.

I was only connecting them due to their same due date...I am also a CPA and know well what the different preparation processes are...Peace, we're on the same side!

Hey, guys.  I called my sponsor who receives the prize fund checks and he told me that the 1099s should go directly to me and not the team captains.  Definitely putting in a phone call tomorrow because as of today, still have not received it.  Would have been nice to get my tax return before I go to Reno next week.  Not too happy about it.  Thanks for the responses everyone.

UPDATE:  So I call USBC this week, twice.  I had not gotten a return phone call or anything in response.  Yesterday, I get a call from my sponsor saying that the team captain had received my 1099.  So I picked it up last night and all is good.

But it brings up another issue.  Last Summer, I called USBC and requested an address change to reflect my home address.  They said any monies and 1099 would be mailed to that address.  Neither one of them did.  They still ended up at the spot I did not want them to go.  Oh well.  Guess it was too much to ask.  I got my 1099 so I am happy.
