Title: 2009 USBC Super Brackets and other side action
Post by: riggs on July 28, 2009, 08:05:10 AM
Guys, the USBC did have the 2009 side action up but it was in one pdf file that was more than 1,400 pages long or something like that and that caused huge problems accessing it. So I think they took it down.

I've got it in my blog, which is here:  http://77square.com/sweat/blog/frame11/entry_459914    (I downloaded it right after it went up - it did take forever.)

Just click on the link a couple of grafs down. It will take a while.

The brand new bowl.com is scheduled to launch next Monday and everything will be there.  Sounded kind of uncertain if it would be on the current site before then.

Matt was talking about posting an explanation later this afternoon.

When I click the link Adobe Reader comes up with an error -

"The file is damaged and can not be repaired."

Opened fine for me as well..

Riggs -- Since you guys split the money down the middle, how do you handle tax implications on years where 1 or 2 bowlers out-perform by a mile (thus bringing in the majority of the cash and needed to claim it)?

Yes but each person gets taxed on what that person won, NOT what they split.  The gov doesn't know that Bowler A made $10,000 but split with Bowler B for $5,000.  The w2's are specifically under your name.

The tax stuff is simple.  You use what is called a tax allocation letter.  All 10 guys sign it and file it with their tax returns.  Categories are for amount entered, amount won and amount allocated to each person.
Big winners also could send out 1099s to others but tax allocation letter is much easier.
We have done it every year since 1999.
