2015 and beyond
« on: March 30, 2011, 08:23:58 AM »
Heard something interesting.... After 2012 it's Reno for 10 years.
Anyone else hear that? Tried to comment on the USBC message board but the moderator wouldn't post any of my comments...
Then they locked the thread...... HMMMMMMMMM.........

It wouldn't be a surprise to me, but I don't think they plan that far ahead normally.

The Bowling Stadium was an investment by the ABC, and I'm sure it's not paid for yet. Add the fact that hardly any cities bid on it, and this is what may happen. Once the Orlando thing fell through, they were forced to scramble a bit. I'm not sticking up for USBC, because it is a pain to get to Reno. It wouldn't surprise me if they tried to build a stadium in Arlington, TX.

Nice for the western part of the country. For the rest of us, it sucks.
Maybe it will become the Western Open???

And you heard this where?

Next, I talked to several tournament people in Reno, and the group I go with is the Chicagoland directors, Orlando is back in the picture.  Disney is going to get involved supplying some of the equity.  It's not a done deal, but Orlando wants it to happen.

The ABC didn't invest anything.  The stadium was paid for by the city of Reno

"
Armed with that commitment and one from the Women's International  Bowling Congress, Reno persuaded the Nevada legislature to raise the  hotel-room tax by a point and dedicate the proceeds to the project"

I plan on going to LA for the 2012 stop but no plans for Reno.

The Reno Stadium was paid for by the people of Reno and they can only use it if they bowl in a tournament there.

Remember, ALL BOWLING IS LOCAL!

I heard that at bowling Friday also.  If thats the case my team will not be going again after next year.  There is only so many things you can do in Reno and I think I have done them all.  Hopefully the Florida thing will end up working out!!

i would be ok if we went to Florida, Reno, and another city, and then repeat that cycle. think you would get a ton of entries for Florida, as more people could use that as a great vacation spot every 3rd year.

That would be a shame as I have no desire to go to Reno every year (Reno is NOT Vegas).  If this ends up being true, I would not be surprised to see a continued decline in entries over the years to come....

I'm here now and no more bowlers than I've seen this week! If they do that u can kiss this tourney goodbye! Nobody wants to come here any longer.  We are sick and tired of making this trek!

Greatness starts at the Pro Shop, there are no bad balls just bad ball drillers!!!

I don't think it's the trek so to speak.  I'm from the northeast, so I know how long it is to travel there.  I'm more concerned with the city itself, it's very run down the casino's are horrible and there is little nightlife for my group.

I like bowling at the stadium, but i hate going to Reno.

Maybe a new topic for discussion, but whats wrong with it being in Reno all the time (let the flaming begin). Before that, hear me out. The daytona 500, is always in Daytona....why, because they built the track to race on for that particular race. The PGA masters, is always in Augusta, Georgia... why, because that is where they play the masters....I believe that if Reno could get a actual flow of consistent money into the town, it could turn around. This year for me, I thought it was cleaned up alittle from the last time I was there....07'. Yes, some have to travel more than the others, but remember...bowling the open is not yours/my day job. Just some food for thought guys, not a bitchfest topic.......

IMO... you can't really compare this tournament to NASCAR or the Masters.  Good thought but those are professional events.  Sure you could argue that if we were talking about bowlings U.S. Open.  Most of those traveling to Reno are avid bowlers but also like sikfish said “it’s not our day job”. So most bowlers like to combine it with a vacation. Ulitmately, I think USBC knows that.

Not to mention when was the last time you saw Jeff Gordon, Tiger woods or Phil Mickleson sucking back a cold one while competing?  Discussion for another forum I suppose.

Anyway... My vote.  Keep it moving.  Coming from a guy with kids.  I hope the Orlando deal comes through. Kill two birds with one stone!
