Title: 2021 Nationals Starts in 3 Short Months!
Post by: n00dlejester on November 29, 2020, 11:17:19 PM
This struck me as pretty bananas, but the 2021 Nationals starts in roughly 3 months! I'm just wondering if there's any news (or rumors) of starting the tournament later in the year given the covid situation.

The pessimist in me has, for 3 months, been telling my 2 teams scheduled for May not to make any plans/reservations that aren't refundable.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, stormtracker. Ironically, we go in May as well and I'm not so sure we'll be outta the woods yet by then.

My group is scheduled to go end of March, we all have our trips booked, but none of us are optimistic of our dates going ahead as scheduled.

I really hope things work out, because if we get cancelled (like the two times we did this year because we rescheduled), I don't know if we'll be able to get our full group to ever go again.

Oh man, I hope you guys get to go! For me, most of the fun is getting to see guys from our group that live all over the place. If you guys lose that chance, it'll be a royal bummer :(. Here's to hoping this vaccine rolls out smoothly, and effectively!

My teams are going in late June, so there is still time yet. It would really suck to lose two years in a row.

I hope by then we're doing alright!

I have no inside knowledge, but the murmurs that I've heard so far indicated that the plan, at this time anyhow, is to proceed as scheduled. Now, that being said, circumstances could certainly change for many reasons. Still, I'm guardedly optimistic. I really missed getting the chance to see my teammates and bowl last year.

We are scheduled for early May.

I know last fall the plan was for one team on a pair and only 4 bowlers a pair for doubles and singles.

But when we signed up for 2021 I don't think that was a consideration for teams signing up.

The covid situation will not be resolved by March and probably not by the time of the end of the tournament. Travel will be iffy with airline schedules trimmed.

I do believe they will try to hold the tournament on schedule. I believe participation will be down significantly. I believe they will have to do something to separate participants.

I don't know how the casinos will handle things either.

I'm hopeful that, if COVID is still not 100% squashed, that USBC separates bowlers like they planned for 2019.

I'm not hopeful that casinos are ready for any type of influx. Do the hotels/casinos have limited capacity for their hotel rooms?

This is not exactly specific to USBC Tournament, but it's related. It's not a political statement either, so those of you who can't help but get pissy about it, go pound sand and stop reading right now...

I work for a large mental health provider which also has skilled nursing care. We were notified yesterday(12/3/2020) that we would be receiving the covid vaccine on December 20th for our skilled nursing client and staff.

So there is an end coming, hopefully it's in time to save the tournament and bowling.

Some good news indeed. I see a lot of people who question how quickly the vaccine was developed, but most don't realize that development had begun on a SARS vaccine years ago. I know a couple of people who work in medical research for different companies and both told me the same thing. Scientists already had a base to work from since covid-19 is similar to SARS, hence the name SARS-CoV-2
