Today's news from USBC Open Championships 2_8_2021
« on: February 08, 2021, 01:45:27 PM »
Just received a survey request from USBC.

It had questions about:
How likely my teams were to bowl this year

required to wear a mask while bowling

 testing negative prior to bowling

required to be vaccinated prior to bowling

what would teams do if the dates were moved to the fall
"If guns kill people, do pencils misspell words?"

"If you don't stand for our flag, then don't expect me to give a damn about your feelings."

required to be vaccinated prior to bowling

There is so much wrong with this particular survey question that I cannot even believe it made it to a survey.  SMH

I should probably add, other than the "Dude, you gonna show?" question,

The rest of them were on a scale of Very Important, Somewhat Important, Important, Not important and CG No Madda.

Actually, I added the last one for flavor.  :o

Given the logistical nightmare in getting the vaccine distributed, there are areas of the country where people currently eligible as part of phase 1A simply cannot get it.  If the USBC were to implement a requirement, there would be people that would be unable to attend simply because they don't have access to the vaccine.

Not to mention that the vaccine doesn't mean the virus still can't be transmitted by those who have received the vaccination.

Sounds like the USBC intends to possibly make some changes and is just getting some idea from potential attendees about how they would respond to them.  Interesting!

You are probably right. My thoughts while reading and answering was they don't know enough yet to make any decisions.

My impression was that the authorities in Las Vegas are bringing pressure to the event for more social distancing etc and that they are looking at a delay to fall so that the vaccine might be widely distributed and a level of safety to the tournament.

I can see this being the case

One step in the right direction for Vegas: https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2021/02/11/nevada-easing-covid-19-restrictions-las-vegas-casinos-restaurants/6723056002/

On Feb. 15, the following places will jump from 25% capacity to 35%:

Gaming floors
Places of worship
Gyms
Fitness studios
Yoga studios
Martial arts studios,
Arcades
Racetracks
Bowling alleys,
Pool halls
Meanwhile, libraries, museums, art galleries, aquariums and zoos will move to 50 percent capacity.

The zoo there is small anyway, as you'll pass both entrances to it in a single block on the way up Rancho to Texas Station, so it may as well be at 100%.

However, what this does mean for us bowling stricken in California (especially Norcal) is that they'll have bigger capacity at alleys in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City to finally make for a decent drive up there to bowl.

What will be interesting is to see how the buffets will handle this, especially since they are going to no longer requiring reservations.

Buffets...not something I would go anywhere near at this point.  We have a huge "tourist attraction level" buffet out here in PA.  I'm talking lines out the door types of crowds every day.  When they reopened (currently restricted to 50% capacity), they made some changes in how the process works.  You must wear your mask as well as plastic gloves while gathering food in the buffet lines.  When you get back to your booth/table, you may remove your mask and gloves.  When you go back to the buffet, the mask goes back on and you put on a new pair of gloves.  They also limit customer stays to 2-hours due to the reduced capacity (yes, some people would stay way longer than that prior to the pandemic.)

Hot damn!! I *absolutely* have spent over 2 hours there, hahaha. That place is bananas! I'm glad they're trying to be safe, but buffets have way too many open mucus membranes for my liking these days.

Now why the hell does that sound more like the name of a brothel than a buffet?  ;D
