Hotels in Baton Rouge

Can anyone that has been to Baton Rouge for the ABC nationals this year recommend a hotel, preferably one within 5 miles of the bowling center with reasonable (<$80/night) prices?

good deal would the Microtel Inn & Suites

from $39 and $59 for a suite
its across from Don Carter lanes to practice
the ABC shot

its on I-12 and Airline HWY.

Regarding the Microtel site, go check out the ABC tournament website.  There is a lot of negative feedback about the Microtel Inn & Suites.

We are booked at the Comfort Suites off of College Dr.  4mi to the River Center I believe.  Booked on the internet for $76/night + taxes.

I stayed at the Microtel and was not very happy - I'd never stay there again.  Here are a few reasons why:

My room was dirty
Stains on the sheets
the smoke detector was sitting on the desk with a gaping hole in the ceiling
The elevator worked 1 day while I was there (only 3 floors so not a huge deal, unless you're carrying your equipment in and out of the room)
My reservation was lost (of 4 rooms in our group, 3 were lost - all of us reserved separately,) and when I made new arrangements those were screwed up, too.  I got a call a day early telling me I was late checking out.  Argh.  They did reduce my rate for that one night by 5 bucks.
The wireless internet access doesn't work on the 3rd floor - when a friend questioned the person at the front desk, they said it hadn't worked in a few months.

and I had one of the suites.

I'd spend a few extra bucks and stay somewhere nicer if you can afford it.

This was one of the hotels we were looking at.  How much was the cab ride to the bowling center (if you had one)?  Were the rooms clean?  Was the neighborhood safe?

Not sure on Comfort Suites yet... we go in June.  I've had good luck with the chain, so I'm optimistic.  It's a mile from the LSU campus.  That's all I know about the neighborhood.

But only 1 night then going to the Sheraton
they were booked up on saturday 6-26-05,

If you were without car check out the Sheraton

We stayed at the Red Roof Inn, there is only one in Baton Rouge. It was only like $60 a night, nothing fancy but it was alright. It's about 10 min to the bowling alley.

Actually I take that back, it cost us $201 to stay 4 nights, so it was closer to $50 a night.

We just got back Sun. Stayed at the Embassy Suites off College Dr. Very nice rooms for $125 per night. Not bad split 4 ways.  The best part was the FREE HAPPY HOUR from 5:00-7:30. Yes, that's right, FREE. Tap beer and mixed drinks, alot of Bacardi went down, our group probably drank enough to pay for the rooms. Angela, the bartender was great. Also, included a free made to order breakfast: pancakes, sausage,eggs, bacon, hash browns,danishes, etc. Would definately recommend.

The Sheraton across the street from the River Center is great. With tax included, cost $102.50. The people were friendly, the rooms were excellent and the beds were unbelievably comfortable. Shuttle to the River Center was available. The only drawback was the bar closed early and food was not available late at night. I would highly recommend it though. One other note, the Argosy casino does not have a bar area, you can only get a drink if you are gambling. We couldn't find where late night food was available there either.
