ABC questions & comments
« on: June 03, 2004, 07:39:14 PM »
I am heading to Reno in two weeks from today. I hope to continue moderate success in the ABC's. I have bowled well enough to cash every year and avg 198 composite so far in ABC's. I have not shot anything huge as of yet, maybe 660 the highest.  Looking for a 700+ and as always to pocket a few extra $$$ in brackets.

Is anyone going to be there the week of  June-21st. I think we bowl on the 22nd & 23rd. Twenty of us go every year. I am planning to ship my stuff UPS. Has anyone tried this? Have you had any unexpected hiccups with that service? I am also going to invest in the CATS clinic. I have always wanted to see my numbers (accuracy, rev rate etc). How did that go for you if you did it?

Hope to have bowling success. I now I will have great time with my friends.

Respectfully, Nod

I shipped my stuff directly to the hotel that I was staying at.
IT was pretty simple other than the fact that I waited until the last minute
and had to ship them second day from my office.  The balls got to the
hotel, and were there when I arrivied, I stayed at the Eldarodo.
I shipped them back using the ABC service at the tournament.
They were shipped out tuesday and should be here soon.

I wanted to try the CATS but I was to tired (bowled D/S at 11:30PM the night
before).

If you are a Brian Voss / Norm Duke type bowler
you shouldn't have to big of a problem.
OOB was outside 10 unless you were playing down
and in with a heavy oil ball.  I was playing
between 10 and 15 Not my favorite line for my body size,
but I made it work.  Stayed above 500 for all 3
585 doubles, 503 singles 517 team.  I am still learning
how to play on tough shots, and learning how to handle
slick approaches(that was my biggest problem).  We had
one guy fall because they were that slick.

If you can consistantly stay between 10 and 15 you should do
fine, just move your feet accourdingly.

CATS was some of the best money I've ever spent on bowling.  Went with the full $130 package: CATS analysis, Video, Video Analysis, Lesson, and got to keep the video.  I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you might have about the process.

While the lesson was as good as the lessons from my regular coach, what the entire evaluation gave me beyond the statistical analysis of my game was a lesson in how to evaluate a video of myself or of another person.  I'm confident now that work with my own video camera at home will be more productive because I know what to look for when troubleshooting.  I also have the comments on tape, which I can review at leisure should I forget anything.

I will be there bowling the 22nd and 23rd myself.  Hopefully I will have enough games to be ready for it.

I just bowled team on the 8:30 shift Saturday, June 5th, D & S at 11:40 Sunday.  Team was a bit tight, but carry for me was pretty good.  Played about 13 to 8.  OK reaction on the back end.  I was blowing up the rack on light hits, but leaving 4's, 4-7's on high hits.  Beak hits were very unforgiving.

Doubles played about 20 to 10.  Adjusted to 17 to 8 as time went on.  Good carry, I just missed too many spares and jerked too many on the beak.  Your shot has to be very precise and consistent.

Used a Dynothane Thing, 4 x 4 box the whole nine games.  Great ball for the shot this year, I just wasn't consistent enough.  1,623 AE. On to Baton Rouge

Have heard of no problems when using the shipping to the stadium. I do recommend you wrap your bowling balls in small buble wrap inside your bowling bag just in case of damage. Have heard it takes about 5 days from the east coast and 4 from the mid-west to get there.

Cats system and lane instruction. (cats-$60 with 1-2hrs instruction is $130) which included a full video for what you worked on. It was very informative and well worth it. By fixing one problem I had, it helped loosen up my swing and was able to easily make back my money in brackets. I had Mike Jasneau and he worked with me for almost three hours. I went to the Lane 81 instruction two days before bowling the ABC to give me some practice time before the tournament. It was well worth it and i would recommend going earilier in the day when they are slower he might tend to spend more time working with you. Have fun, make money and don't post a big team score as my team is close to the bubble line for cashing so don't knock us off. LOL

Just got my balls back yesterday from Reno.
All looks good.  It took a week to get them to Ohio.
I will contribute that to the holiday.

For 4 balls in a Storm Rolling Thunder bag, the cost was
$64.04

Not bad

Better than what I had to repay my office for sending them out
about $150 (2nd day)
