Nationals back in Baton Rouge in 2012?
« on: March 05, 2006, 01:15:14 PM »
Just noticing on bowl.com that the tournament will be back in Baton Rouge in 2012.  I thought they had to wait 10 years before going back to a site again.  Is it that hard finding host cities, as the person that sets up our teams seems to believe?  An interesting choice considering last I heard people were still living in the River Center, now, we're still talking 6 years from now, but I was still a little surprised to see Baton Rouge on there, mostly from the less than 10 year standpoint.

If Reno can have the tournament every 3 years, I don't see anything wrong with Baton Rouge waiting 7...

Where did you hear 10 years?

And yes, it is difficult finding a host city.  Most convention centers prefer to have small trade shows where they can have a couple going at the same time, or larger ones, that while they will take up the whole place, will turn over pretty fast.  They can generate more revenue that way as opposed to having one event that takes up the whole center for 6 months

I had heard from several different people around here that a host city had to wait 10 years, most notably Billings wanting it again, but had to wait the 10 years, and Reno is a different animal altogether, I think part of the agreement with them is because of the Stadium they get it every 3 years.  I had a great time in Baton Rouge, and will look forward to going back, just was surprised when I saw it on there.  And now after further review, that theory really gets shot, because Albuquerque is getting it after only 8 years, so if that ever was a rule, maybe they're waiving it because of how difficult it is to find host cities.

The seafood lasagna at the hotel across the street from the convention center is enough to get me back to Baton Rouge!  I love Corpus too!  We're going the last of the month!

We will be there the 30th and 31st.  We're staying at the Railway Inn Suites from what I have been told.

BR was my third choice of the three. But I thought it was El Paso, not San Antonio.
