Title: Bad rumor
Post by: mainzer on April 23, 2010, 02:27:19 PM
heard a rumor that they USBC Open would be done on one of the Red White and Blue patterns next season!!! Anyone else hear this??

This would be a disaster I mean they keep trying to get integrity back but they just take the biggest tourney and give it a easy pattern that any joe blow can score on? If it is true they have knocked bowling as a sport down farther than I care to admit.

pathetic. All I can say.

If they put the toughest pattern out there (not sure which one it is) you will still have the top teams at the top and to THS hacks (like me) fighting it out below.  How is that different from the current situation?

Don't see why this would be a negative, unless they used the Red. The current pattern is probably White-level anyway. Isn't the Blue one sport-certified?

These patterns are so walled up its not even funny.  The only one close to being tough is the blue at 4-1.  The only problems with the others is they can become wet/dry on certain surfaces.  But with the right ball in your hand, they can be just as easy as typical league shot.

why not make it more scoreable for the common folk... Everyone is wondering why numbers go down.. what is wrong with making it a little easier for people to score and have more fun while doing it.  You dont need to make it a house shot, just a little give is all it takes.  How come the ladies event is on a easier shot.  How did they just have 3 teams shoot like 3300 in like one shift ?

 even with a easier shot the better teams can still break them down to be easier.  The cream should still rise to the top

RED = very wet/dry

WHITE = still very easy but more blended

BLUE = about 4-1. Still too easy for awarding Eagles.

SPORT = under 3-1

They dont need to turn this tournament into a carry contest like most others around the country have turned into. If you want to win then make good shots and be proud of the fact that you performed better than everyone else. Dont be happy because you could get to the pocket just like everyone else, but tripped a 4 or carried a 10 one more time than everyone else. If you can repeat and make good shots then you will score well. Isnt that the point of a tournament?

Why not? because it's the nationals, it should be tougher. Not every event has to be geared to the lowest common denominator. Its only one tournament, you should be able to knuckle down for it. Enjoy the bowling for what it is, to see how good you are and compare to others.

Worry about having fun afterword's, when your with your friends and teammates at the casino, buffet etc.

I for one would not go to 3 out of 4 years to bowl on the red white or blue. the only reason I go to this is cause its not a scoreathon

The ladies tournament also has 3 or 4 different divisions and it isn't like the ladies who put up the 3300 are bad bowlers lol. Just our little input from the booth

Ahh, I see.

Next question -- the hell's the point of having a blue condition if it's not really "blue"? (i.e., sport-compliant)

What's the point of having Blue be Sport?  Sport is Sport.  Color patterns are meant to be different than Sport.

I guess I dont understand why people want this tourney to be easier. This is Nationals it is a big deal, the Eagle should go to the best bowlers, not the guys that got lucky. That is why this shot should be tough.

If you don't like the challenge keep bowling leagues where your ego won't get hurt.

Has anyone actually verified the rumor?  If not it is just a rumor no sense getting all wound up without knowing if it is actually going to happen.

This nice semi-migraine I have means I don't feel like typing a treatise on it at the moment. Suffice to say that I feel there is so much out there right now in the realm of oil patterns -- PBA named patterns, Kegel named patterns, Red-White-Blue, USBC's definition of "sport," the pattern used for the Open and the one used for Nationals -- that we're confusing bowlers.

If it's eventually confirmed that Nationals will be going to Blue, and my Advil continues to work, I'll revisit it then.

Verify a rumor?  You must be new to the internet.

Dan,

Not new to the internet just have learned not to get wound up over rumors as most rumors end up being just that a rumor not fact.

Just gonna throw this out there-

The pattern at nationals isn't even really all that hard. I mean, I used to be able to repeat shots well when I bowled 60 games a week, but now I average probably 9 or 10 and I averaged higher at nationals in 2007 and 2009 (the only years I have gone) than I booked between those 2 years. I mean, all you have to do is watch other people and determine where your breakpoint should be and keep it in that area. Isn't that hard people.

Although, I will say people are correct in saying the difficulty is higher when you follow lesser players in singles/doubles. Last year I followed a bunch of league hacks throwin charcoal up 14 going into doubles and that was tough (even then I finished witha 230, made money in brackets and cashed), but I legitimately think I'm averaging 225+ in singles overall. 2teens in team (where the playing field is more level).
