The ball express calculates $261.99 for next day delivery for 4 balls. I thought it will be cheaper if mailed 8 to 10 days before competition. Any thoughts or advice?
-
For that kind of money you could get them an airline ticket. That is astounding.
-
I won't be paying that amount but that what comes up from The Ball Express shipment in the BOWL.com web site. It is robbery for me. I just wanted to know if other people had the same problem. In the UPS site it comes up to be $56.66. I will go directly to one of their UPS Stores and make the shipment.
Thanks for the feed back.

That's 65 lbs for next day delivery. Not that unreasonable. Heck, they charge you 20 bucks for a 1 oz. letter for overnight delivery.
Ball Express is good for ground shipment and if you are not going to bowl any side tournaments. If you are going to take your equipment out of the convention center, you will be better off using FedEx Ground to your hotel or a hold for pick up at Kinkos.
FedEx Ground is the cheapest shipping option.

Fedex/Kinko's told us that they would hold ground shipments, but when going to send stuff from a Fedex office they said Fedex/Kinko's would only hold air shipments and not ground.
-
Before shipping, I would make a call to the receiving Kinko's and find out from the horses mouth. I haven't had a problem, yet. Also, if your hotel will not receive packages for guests, maybe one of your teammate's hotels will. Just ship in his/her name.

With your guidance I made the right decision to ship it by FedEx not to use the Ball Express. The cost is $56.97 for a 4 day ground shipment box of 4 bowling balls to my hotel in Las Vegas from Nashville, TN. The hotel will hold the box for me. This is my first trip to a USBC tournament. Will try to have lot's of fun.
Thanks.

BBE express from ohio to vegas $79.96 one way 4 balls ground, ups regular site was about $ 5.oo cheaper not worth the hassle, went to fed ex and it is $61.00 each way and ship directly to hotel at no extra charge a savings of $36.00 total. It is well worth it to lug them around for that, Just another example of how the Usbc is trying to stick it to us bowlers by hiding fees and when I questioned them I got the typical corporate response of convienence, supplies etc.. just my fyi do what makes you comftorable but I know when BBE was first started prices were much more in line with everyone else now they have to pay for their move to texas somehow!!!
-
I have only gone to 2 USBC'S in my time. Used BBE when I went to Reno in 06, then thing I liked was I took the balls to my local UPS and picked them up at the stadium. When I was done, took them back down stairs and they packed them up, shipped them and I was done with my stuff.
Never touched a ball or had to carry anything other than my shoes outside of the lanes.
Would have to weigh the hassle of carrying 4 balls back and forth for the money.

Bowlers are some of the cheapest people on the planet.

Me stupid. Me believe anything. Please tell me what to do.

i know a bunch of my buddies that are going, all but two are flying, and the other two people had their flights changed because of the garbage economy, so they cancelled the tickets and are charging everyone 60 bucks each and just driving the balls there

Why do you need next day delivery? Can't you just ship them out a week or so ahead of time? I've tried several different ways to ship my stuff out there. BBE is by far the best value we have. I get a very serious corporate discount from my employer for UPS. But after you factor in what the BBE charges you for shipments not processed by them, I was still better off using the standard USBC site for BBE.

I dragged 4 balls to the tourney, and had BBE ship them home.
4 balls ground (from Vegas to Ohio) ended up $77.00.
It would have cost me $50 to check them as baggage (two 2-ball totes).

Ship them straight to the hotel, they have pickups as well, so ask them to ship them back for you.
When you go to the UPS store ask for a return ticket as well
give yourself a good 5-7 days (depending where your shipping from)

Your right back to carrying 4 balls from your hotel to the lanes and back. Don't know about you, but I can't see carrying 4 balls and shoes and towel back and forth from hotel to lanes and back?
Just my old opinion.

Got the 4 balls shipped, FEDEX $56.97, to my hotel. When I get there I will do some practice games. I will be leaving the bowling balls inside the trunk of the car. From there I will take them to the Cashman Center to bowl my games and what ever other tournament in Vegas. Then shipped them out directly to my home.

Again, it depends if you bowl any side tournaments or practice sessions. It doesn't make any sense to use BBE to the center and then take the balls out to the car for bowling elsewhere. BBE is great if all you bowl is the Nationals.

DO NOT! I Repeat DO NOT! leave your bowling balls in the trunk of the car for any length of time! This town has cracked more balls than anywhere, execpt maybe Phoenix. this applies in any month between May and October.
