Was anyone on this board a big casher in the 2003 ABC in Knoxville. I have bowled the national tournament twice now and about even. After expenses, brackets, entry etc i am a little ahead of even.

I hope to do better than that in the future. I have a composite for two years of 198 and I hope to average over deuce.

How about you guys/girls.

If you've averaged 198, you should be way over EVEN, especially in brackets. I don't understand.

Just because you average 198 does not mean you should be way over even. We do not know if he went 210-150-230. You can average 200 and have that low game that will get you eliminated from brackets. The only thing average really means anything is in the all events score. I have bowled in 6 ABCs thus far and have a 205 average roughly. That in no way means anything in the way of how much money I have made. I shot 1880 this year and had my best tournament, prize money wise than I did when I had my best tournament, scoring wise at 1960.

In general, I agree with what you have said, However, even I, who rarely gets into local league brackets because they turn out to be such a crap shoot, have won more than my share of brackets at the Nationals, and there, I have been happy to average around 195. The brackets is where all the money is at Nationals, but still with a 198 or 200 average, one will generally make a nice bit of change, more than even, with such averages even if you do not enter the brackets. I have gone for the last 5 years in a row, and most years I have even paid for the motel and the airfare. But then, my games have generally been more consistent, not the 215-150-215 variety.

Well thanks for the word correction guys. I meant Big Cashers not Bog?

I'll give myself a black eye for that goof. As far as Brackets are concerned the obvious is correct. This year I had a rough set in team and doubles but was fortunate enough to bring myself back to even with singles. Last year i fared much better but did not invest as much as this year. I do not cap out on the brackets like a lot of guys do. I usually invest around $100 per set and thats about it. Brackets are not my living nor do I have a silent investor as some do that cap out. I saw a guy this year win $1800 or so and he got about 25% after he paid off all his investors. It is just another way to play them. The brackets are indeed a crap shoot, one guy I know in town here won $10000.00 in the Super Brackets with good fortune to sneak through some early rounds with some low games. All in all i have been ahead after two years with Billings being on the plus side and Knoxville about even.

The real purpose of the post was to congratulate those who did well and also participate on this board

Exactly, last year i shot 1827 and this year 1743 with way to many splits. I consider myself a good all around bowler but the ABC is a different horse. Most equipment i have over reacted so i was the victim of 9 splits and a few washouts that are killers. After one ball change and hand changes i did ok. My first two games were 171 & 175 then i got my head out of my tail and did better and averaged 199 rest of the games. It has been a learning experience but I like the Tourney. Even with the sub-par scoring I have cashed each year and as i said just about broke even this year and last year made money. The tournament average was 170?? this year so all - in all i guess i did better than most?

I feel confident i will get better as the tournament becomes less and less unfamiliar to me. I did make $125 in the Sport Challenge for the one day i bowled. I think i was in the top 3 that day but like a doof no brackets.

Brackets are great, but you have to watch who is in your squard. This past year I bowled Thursday Friday. Do you know who bowled the beginning of the week? Team USA and the Support teams. So you have 20-30 guys who all shot the lights out, I would have got killed with my 195 avg. Luckily I was one of the better bowlers on my squads so I came out well ahead. What a difference two days can make
