Title: For those who already bowled OC, how are the lanes this year?
Post by: Forza76 on April 05, 2019, 07:31:06 AM
I've read a few posts of bowlers that recently bowled in the OC within the past week or two and they said that the shot for both events are similar to last year. Anyone else that has bowled had similar results compared to last year?

I haven't bowled yet (next month), but I have heard from multiple people, that have bowled, and they all say they're similar to the last few years.  That might also explain why the scores seem to be through the roof this year...because of the similarity.

I bowled (well  I guess you can call it that) and would agree they played very similar to last year.

I didn't feel the lanes blew up like they did last year, suspect oil might not be fire this time around, but the team is a little shorter, doubles/singles is a bit longer again. Not easy, but i've certainly bowled on harder.

I for the first time in all of my years wished I had a stronger assymetrical pearl ball with me, won't make that mistake again, but for everyone, your mileage may vary. Use your eyes, watch your ball reaction and adjust, and more importantly have fun.

2 years ago in Vegas one of my better looks was actually with asymmetrical Pearl, that's why I'm bringing both my Kingpin Gold and Creed

My conspiracy pearl will definitely be in my bag. Should be good for when they start to get chopped up. Our group tries to burn up that spot between 5-10 early. Maybe move in with it and open up the lane a little. Maybe! Right now the conspiracy pearl is my favorite piece. Hits like a tank.

I really don’t think you need to beat them from the right anymore with surface, they hook already. Here’s what we do. 7 of us throw plastic between 12-15.  The other 3, our best shot makers throw surface around 3/4/5. And they are hitting 3/4/5, not 8 out to 3. I see it all the time, guys claim they’re going up 1st arrow, they aren’t, they are swinging first arrow. I mean guys are sliding 22 but will tell you, with a straight face, they are going up 1st arrow. I digress, this method gives us hold (which I desperately need) and some swing.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I plan on going bowling there on May 8th and 9th and bringing my Jackal Rising, Jackal Ghost, Forge, Forza GT and Octane Carbon. I might switch out the Carbon for either a Hydra or Combat Tank if I can get one before I go for team event. The two Jackals are the only ones in my bag from last year, so I'm interesting to see how well the Forge will do on the team pattern.

Great approach Northface.  Using plastic to create some hold in the middle is an effective but under appreciated tactic.  Also spot on about burning some track.   That is worthless unless you are squared up.

I just returned and had my worst USBC in 16 trips. I always have an open mind, but I must admit I over thought this and wet the bed badly. I hate to say it but this tournament is "in my head" and I feel like I'm bowling in a phone booth on the fresh. I used to bowl well in this and it's 4 straight lousy efforts now, ugh.

My first mistake....believing you must roll a solid symmetric. While certainly the smartest option in the team event, don't think it's mandatory. Secondly, as has been pointed out here, you can get inside early in minors. Don't think you have to beat up a track outside.

Here's another thing to consider....it is very warm in the tournament center. Bring a file, sandpaper, drywall screen....something to open up a thumb hole just in case you need to.

Bowl good everybody. Don't get confused and tighten up like me.

Are the 3 throwing reactives all on the same 5 man team and the strategy is for them to score big?  Bet compared to most mortals most of the ten would be shot makers.  Just interesting to hear from the sharks how they do it.

2 of the 3 are on one team. Of the 10, you have 4 former Junior Team USA players.

They are the same they’ve always been with minors hooking a bit more than years past. We were in around 5th arrow towards the end. Team was pretty tough, we had 3010, and left at least 100 pins out there in makable spares. Same thing applies, plastic at the 3 pin and surface up 3/4/5 and you should have them set up nicely.
