Heading to 2022 Nationals in 2 Weeks!
« on: May 01, 2022, 12:36:38 PM »
I'm headed out to Vegas next week, and bowl May 13/14! For those that went, or heard anecdotes:

1. How's it been? I hear the lanes have some built-in hold this year.
2. How are the plaza's approaches?
3. And the most important question: best restaurant you ate at!

Thanks in advance, BR fam!

We bowl in mid-April. The shot is very playable this year for both team and d/s.

No issues with the approaches at all.

Best restaurant was Michael's at Southpoint. We had our group dinner at Silverado steakhouse and it's good as well.

I've always enjoyed Baja Miguel's at South Point.

10 min drive from South Point is Big B's Texas BBQ as a more casual option

First off, bowl well! I will be looking for your report after you bowl.

Love Baja Miguels! The chips and 3 dips they bring you to start (beans, salsa, guac) are excellent. Well priced meals and some come with a free marg. You will also get a coupon book if you are staying at Southpoint and there are many coupons to use for free drinks, including another marg at Baja Miguels.

Silverado is good as well as Milo said.

Outside of Southpoint - do you like pizza? Authentic Chicago Deep Dish? There is a place called Giordanos on the strip that will deliver. It does take 45 minutes ore more for the pizza to cook so it can be a wait, so be prepared. However, the pizza is excellent.

Do you like Sushi? There's an all you can eat sushi joint (3 locations) called Yama Sushi. Its about $25 at lunch time per person and $30 at dinner time. You can try as many different kinds of sushi as you want. Very very very good!

I bowl in 3 weeks but watching the videos and scores explode I decided to put together some stats on the Standard Division because the people averaging 155-175 for singles and 310-350 for doubles would be the ones to take advantage of the softer conditions the most.

Standard Division first bowled in 2017. For the first 4 years, Standard had a TOTAL of 6-700 series bowled with a high set of 711 (just last year). In 2019, 690 WON! This year, there are already 6-700 series and the highest set ever of 716 (just shot last night). There's also a 714, so the 2 highest sets ever are from this year. The previous high set of 711 would be third this year right now.

In Standard Doubles, for the first 4 years there was 61-1200 sets with a high of 1274 in 2019. This year, there are already 3 sets OVER 1300 with a high of 1362 (just shot yesterday as well) and 32 sets over 1200. The previous high set of 1274 would already be fifth this year right now.

So without bowling, I would absolutely deduce there is more hold and more friction when the middle division scores are exploding.

I'm stoked for the Mexican joint now! I love me some good Mexican grub.

Your analysis if the Standard Division is incredibly insightful, thank you for that! It really proves how much room for error there is.

I'll definitely write up my annual report for all events I bowl. I'm targeting at least one practice session, the BTM, and Nationals. I'm not sure time will allow a journal squad, but I might try a late squad just to get the reps in.

No problem! Enjoy it!!!

I also should have added about Standard Doubles - the max average you can have is 1050 (350 per game). So the 1362 just shot is 312 over average. That's a ton. The team that shot 1362 last night, the one guy had 206-279-259 for 744.

Hey Noodles - the 716 in Standard shot on Sunday which was the highest series ever shot....lasted 1 day. Someone had 718 last night.

Now more 700s in Standard this year (in only 6/7 weeks) than the first 4 years combined.

That is bananas! Now it'll be a confidence game - momentum about good scores is hard to slow down, especially as some new pieces come out (looking at you, Zen Soul).

Last year was soft, this year even more.  We had a classified guy never broke 500 shoot 599 in teams.  I wouldn’t say a ton of hold, but definitely friction on the outside.

I was in Vegas 4/28-5/2. We bowled 4/30 and 5/1. Here are my answers to your questions:

1. Both patterns were VERY scorable. For team, playing fairly straight up around 5 worked great for most of our guys. Ball choices varied by bowler, but there was easy recovery from out there, and, yes, there seemed to be more hold than we were used to 3+ years ago. Start out playing pretty straight up the outside, and then either ball down or keep creeping inside.

For Minors, the gutter played for us from the word go. I used a UC3 for the first two games of doubles and had a very good look. From there, I just kept moving my feet and mark in 2-3 boards at a time the rest of the way, switching first to an IQ Tour Solid and then to a Phaze II. There was definitely some hang right as the day went on, but there was still plenty of room as long as you didn't tug the heck out of it or throw it out the window to the right.

2. I had zero issues with the approaches when we were there. 1-2 of our guys thought they were a little bit sticky, but that wasn't the case for me.

3. I guess I would say Stacked (inside the Mirage) was the best place I ate this time. It's a typical Vegas casino steakhouse, meaning pricey. Still, the food was solid. Also, I really liked the Mexican restaurant inside South Point. I don't recall the name, but you got a really nice-sized plate without spending a fortune.

Anyhow, good luck out there. Have fun, and hit 'em hard!

Yes sir! That's our insanely large group. If you recently got an email about thanking Don for his efforts, that was sent by me.

Thanks for the rundown, Gene! It really seems like the track area is where it's at this season. My goal is to *finally score over 1800!!

I'm speaking from 4 years ago or so.

As long as your squad starts on time they will push everyone to stay steady being is the last shift.

Motiv had jerseys but not specific to each ball...just motiv ones.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???
