Riggs, Question on Lanes at the stadium
« on: March 10, 2010, 11:06:54 AM »
Riggs

We are bowling team on 49-50 and S/D on 51-52

I have heard the upper end of the stadium was not the place to be. Just wondering your thoughts on those pairs.

thanks

Go Storm...

This is true. They also use different style lane oiling machines At the
walkway entrance, during tournaments such as the Masters and Queens,
when you move to lanes past that area you do notice the difference. In my
opinion they become tighter for me.

Will be interesting to hear...

My team along with myself have had success up on the high end.  Think maybe people get too wrapped up on what side of the house they are on.

The high end of the stadium does tend to play a little tighter than the low end. This has been the characteristic of the stadium from the beginning however. It really just depends on your style and how you break them down..

I think the extreme differences from low end to high end diminished greatly when they installed the new lanes a few years back.

In general, high end is tighter ... probably cause low end gets more play and so lanes are more worn. Most people like the low end better but I've had some real struggles on some of the pairs on the low end and great success on some of the pairs on the high end in PBA stuff there.  My least favorie pairs are the 30s and guess where we are for everything this year?

I also know people who swear 51-52 is a death pair.

That being said, I think who is in front of you in minors and how they play the lanes and how you manage the pattern in team is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than any pair to pair differences.

I bowled team event on 61-62 and turned the corner at 420.  If it wasnt for a couple bonehead shots on my part, I should have shot 650+ in that event.  I agree with Riggs.  Since the new lanes have been installed, dont think the differences are nearly as noticable.

I find this interesting.

In all the previouse tournaments I have bowled (23), we bowled on one end in team and flipped to the other for the minors.

So 49-50 for team would mean you would be somewhere 1 thru 40 for the minors.

Has this policy changed this year?

No.  3 years ago, I bowled on 43-44 for BOTH team event and doubles and then switched to 41-42 for singles.  What was worse, is that both days, my ball reaction sucked on 43-44 where I had to bowl 6 out of the 9 games.

In 2007, we had all of our events on the low end (1-28).  This year we have everything on 29-30 and the 30s.

Know many others who've had that over years.  Not any policy I've ever heard of.

Thanks Riggs for the reply.  I was wondering if the newer lanes still had the same characteristics as the old ones.  So thanks for the advice.

I talked to my coach about his dates and times at Reno.  It looks like you guys are bowling close to our dates and times.  We bowl March 25 8:30 and 26th at 5:30.
Mr. Mike Shady.

thanks again cya you guys in a couple weeks.  Hope to learn a lot from one of (if not the best team) that bowls the USBC every year.
