Leaving tomorrow...
« on: March 09, 2010, 11:11:50 PM »
As much as I dislike Reno, I was conned into going back

Leave tomorrow, bowl Sat/Sun.

Bringing a Furious, Elite Black Label, and spare ball.  Expectations are pretty low this year.   I have been bowling well, but am the definition of a house hack (worse since I only average 208)..lol  Anything around 1700 would be a success.  I would love to shoot 600 for the first time in 5 tries (577 twice is my high nationals set)

I am then heading to Tahoe for a week, but will post my report when I get the chance.

Stop by and we can hook you up with some surface prep and maybe some insight on how to play the lanes. Safe travels

My report..

See Strapper Squared as well as we bowled together..

Unlike him, I had no look in team at all with either ball.  Too much speed or not enough hand to get it to the breakpoint at the right time.  I had a problem blowing it through all day long.  It played a lot tighter than Vegas did for me, and even towards the end I still really had no hook.  I could have used a little more ball (Maybe a 3.5 or Mission or Invasion)

As a team it seemed to be similar (except for Strapper...he was the only one to break 500..lol).  We won''t talk about the scores, they were that bad (considering we just missed cashing last year).  We just barely beat the classified team we matched up with!

S/D were completely different.  The teams in front of us were the teams you dream about when you know you bowl after.  The doubles pair had 10 guys work together with super dull equipment (both teams shot around 3000).  In fact, I think they left the balls behind.  I believe they scavenged local centers for them and sanded them as dull as you can.  They didn''t want to bring them home, so left them there...  The pair was dry, but pretty wide open.  It was a matter of transitioning fast enough.  I never throw the ball well to start doubles (need more than 4 shots to loosen up..) but got lucky and went front 4.  Flagged a 5 pin in the 8th frame and ended up with 21x...  Couldn''t string anything together and missed a few easy spares and shot 19x 19x for 59x.   1150 doubles (should get us a small amount back..)

Singles, the pair played a bit tighter with a ton of hook in the middle.  Shot 21x - 19x - 16x (574 i think).  3rd game, 1 shot cost me 600 (split in the middle of a string).  I couldn''t transition fast enough though.  I ended basically fading my Black Label across the pocket.  Sliding in the left ditch, out to 15 at the break point.  If I was further right than that, it would checkup at the arrows.  I would hate to see what the 1140 shift for S/D looks like.  There doesn''t seem like there is enough oil in the middle.

I used my black label sanded to 2000 all but all 9 games (had so much over under with the Furious at 2000 the few shots I threw it and it wouldn''t get far enough down the lane in s/d).  The key as always is not to get it right of the 2nd Tracer down the lane, and if you are around there at the break, you should be close to the pocket.  Though if you had a ton of hand a decent breakpoint setup a few boards outside of it.  Should be right on the border of cashing in Singles and Doubles so it wasn''t all bad..

Gambled 40-50 hours From Thurs - Sun and lost about expected value over that time.  Played a little of everything-- BJ, 3card, 4card, Craps, and Pai Gow..Earned a few free buffets out of it, so it wasn''t a total loss..lol

Tahoe / Heavenly was beautiful.  Skiing was nice, views were stunning.  I would like to wander up there in the summer sometime and see how it differs.

Good luck to all who follow
